Hi! I’m a 3rd year premed on the pre-DO track. I am taking this course to complete my minor in health psych and bc I am very interested in nutrition! I am very curious to learn about processed foods. Healthy eating = nourishing fuel. I love sushi and chocolate! @beh353#beh353
This is such a huge finding and goes to show how important nutrition really is. Making sure you have a good diet that is well rounded is always a good choice and now that more research is coming out, it is becoming even more important to encourage healthy eating! @beh353#beh353
@MarinaAlex113@beh353 Hi Marina, I like that your approach to incorporating nutrition not only includes eating habits but family history as that is very important to consider when treating patients! @beh353#beh353
As an aspiring physician who wants to work in pediatrics, I will ensure that when talking with parents and patients, I approach the subject of nutrition at an age appropriate level and give out resources that are easy to follow and understand! @beh353#beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD Hi Emma, thank you so much for your lecture! I really enjoyed it. I didn’t realize that our body can only absorb a certain amount of a vitamin at once and that when you take Emergen-C, which I do a lot when feeling sick, you pee most of it out! @beh353#beh353
This was so fascinating to learn about! Since about half of the population is deficient in vitamin D, I think we should be encouraging more people to talk to their providers to make sure they aren’t deficient and if they are, they should start taking supplements! @beh353#beh353
Vitamin D influences over 200 genes and vitamin D receptor sites are found in nearly all, if not all, cells in the body.. Over half the population is deficient (!) and this affects the way our cells and genes function leading to chronic disease such as cancer, high blood pressure, autoimmune disease & much more.
Also important: Magnesium holds the key to Vitamin D benefits. Many people who do not see an adequate level, even with supplementation, may not have adequate magnesium intake.
Without the mineral magnesium present, Vitamin D is stored in the body and not used.
@Nadine_g15 Hi Nadine, I definitely agree that eating healthy does not mean you have to be very restrictive. It’s definitely important to balance what you eat and this a great example of that! @beh353#beh353
@seata_thapa@beh353 Hi Thapa, this is such a great find! This is such a detailed article and I love that they list what foods to avoid or to add and the guidelines for every age group. @beh353#beh353
This recipe looks so delicious and I can’t wait to to try to make it! I love that it has a great and healthy ingredients and can be made quickly which is important to me as I feel like I don’t always have time to make nutrient dense food. @beh353#beh353
In case you missed it, Mediterranean Steak Grain Bowls are the perfect meal for the whole family. They get dinner on the table quickly (hello 30 minutes), are customizable, and provide a perfectly balanced, nourishing dinner. https://t.co/MBSZOdoK0F
This article is great for parents to learn about healthy eating for their children. All information is stated clearly and briefly and it provides great ideas for parents. It also has a chart that parents can use when serving food. @beh353#beh353

This is such a great way to teach kids how to eat healthier! Making it something fun encourages kids to participate in making food and may make them actually want to eat it. This is also a great way for adults to think about what they should be eating. @beh353#beh353
@Nadine_g15@beh353 Hi Nadine, I also felt this way reading that article and this will always stick with me as a future physician. I was most shocked by how long it takes heavier patients to be diagnosed with an eating disorder and something needs to change! @beh353#beh353
I was horrified about what patients had been told by their doctors when they came in for help, esp for smth unrelated to weight. Those comments were insensitive and unhelpful. As a future physician, I will never disregard my patients just because they are heavier. @beh353#beh353
@mckennacaseyy Hi McKenna, I 100% agree! Fat shaming is not the solution to the levels of obesity we have in the US. I think approaching this issue with care is crucial and educating people from a young age and providing them with good choices is better! @beh353#beh353
Investing in your health is crucial for a longer and better life! As mentioned in this post, eating healthy is one of those things you should do to prevent heart disease. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be expensive or overly difficult and can make a huge change! @beh353#beh353
In 100 years, we’ve learned a lot about heart disease, including that most can be prevented. Eat better, be more active, quit tobacco, get healthy sleep, and manage weight, cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure for a longer, healthier life.
This week was eye opening. I had no clue that when people lose weight, their metabolism slows down and they burn less calories from just living. I see how this can be very discouraging and contributes to the problem James Corden and Bill Maher talked about. @beh353#beh353
@karisbauman@beh353 Hi Karis, I also relate to this barrier. I said something similar about how as a student, it can be very hard to find time to cook and I also tend to opt for something quick. Ive noticed that writing out what I’ll cook has helped a lot! @beh353#beh353
It is so interesting to learn about how helpful the food we eat can be. A lot of these foods and drinks are widely accessible to people and can be incorporated easily into your every day diet. They can also be very tasty which makes it easier to eat! @beh353#beh353
An Estimated 268,000 American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Research has shown that certain foods have strong protective effects that keep a lower protective PSA level.
-Cruciferous Veggies
-Coffee
-Tomatoes
-Pomegranate
-Green Tea
-Turmeric (Curcumin)
-Walnuts
Interesting study: cancer patients were given three quarters of a cup of canned tomato sauce every day for three weeks resulting in decreased PSA concentrations in men with prostate cancer. As well, free radical damage of the DNA in their white blood cells dropped by 21%.

The barrier that I feel applies most to me is “lack of time to plan, shop, prepare and cook healthy foods”. As a busy college student, I find it difficult to find time to go grocery shopping, especially without a car, and to cook things other than frozen food. @beh353#beh353
@MarinaAlex113@beh353 Hi Marina, it’s so great that you take a B-complex vitamin and that it has some additional nutrients that are also important! While vitamins aren’t a replacement for eating, this can definitely provide some additional support when you’re not eating as much. @beh353#beh353
It is so cool to learn about how amazing the food we eat can be! I also really appreciate the fact that this statement has links to research as evidence of these properties! @beh353#beh353
