I understand it can be hard for readers halfway around the world to absorb headlines like this over & over. Fatigue for stories of faraway grief is natural.
But every one of these families is shattered, possibly beyond repair. Please do read what my colleagues are documenting.
I'm not really on here anymore...but I do have a few new poems in the spring issue of The Poetry Review @PoetrySociety. here's one—title taken from a Jean Valentine poem I hold dear. thank you as ever for reading 🌷
I know it doesn’t matter at this point but this is true of virtually every US and Israeli university. Every higher education institution in these countries has “dual use”—DOD funding, research, “talent pipeline”—this is just Think Tank babble to justify upcoming genocidal attacks
Brilliant, from the great Becca Rothfeld - "it is a sign of a fatally limited imagination to assume that we can only ever desire the pittance to which we are currently reconciled": https://t.co/2OBIiNsK8k
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.
Hundreds of kids are still detained. We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵
if you want to talk about how “training” would make state violence workers less violent let’s recall the man who murdered Renee Good was a machine gunner in Iraq, quite literally trained by the US to kill
I understand if you don't want to watch a video of a man die but this is, unequivocally, a guy just getting grabbed off the street, maced, and shot to death by agents of the state in the span of about 30 seconds. No acts of violence, no threat to the agents, just a murder.
"[T]he narrative has taken hold that ICE agents are rogue cops or cops on steroids, trained to terrorize or simply untrained. Strangest of all in this story is the liberal pipe dream that local police will stand up against ICE and CBP, when police have collaborated with ICE and been deployed to protect agents from protesters, even in so-called sanctuary cities."

When Harry Met Sally is a film that’ll always stay with me. When I think of romance, I think of it. When I think of the eccentrics of falling in love, I think of it. When I think of New Years and the turn of another leaf, I think of it. I don’t think you can direct something that
It starts today, but nothing is final until the siege over Gaza is lifted, apartheid ends in the West Bank, all our hostages in Israeli prisons are released, the 7 million Palestinians in the diaspora can return home, we are liberated, the occupation falls, and Palestine is freed, from the river to the sea.
Anything short of that is just a pause in the 2 years of genocide, the 77 years of ethnic cleansing, and a century of colonialism.
The Sameer Project will stand with the people of Gaza, today in celebration, tomorrow in rebuilding, and always in solidarity. With all our efforts this pause will turn permanent, the occupation of our people and land will end, we will have lasting freedom.

we know the conklins are in “philly” & personally I believe it’s upper darby or elkins park but laurel has always kinda wanted a fitler sq townhouse. likewise would put money on the fishers’ old place being in brookline/belmont/newton/arlington (maybe concord/lincoln)
sorry to start TSITP posting but I’m soooo deep into this that I can’t stop trying to triangulate everyone’s in-universe locations. like first of all I understand why everyone in this show is deeply maladjusted bc they must be spending half of their lives on i-95
W4G is doing the Sealey Challenge! To make it possible for the members of our collective, we’re doing it as a group. That means, instead of one person setting out to read a book of poems each day, our goal is to have one person from our collective read a book of poems each day.
