Photos of each plant specimen are taken with a scale and a colour checker. The purpose of having collections digitization is to facilitate access to the specimens by researchers and the public.
The texture observed on the surface of their wings have waterproof properties, but also antibacterial properties! They have nanoscopic pillars so small and sharp that they puncture and kill bacteria, making their wings germ-proof, a case of bioinspiration.
Our new poster features apoid wasps, a group of wasps very close to bees, with 25 species of the 100 species found in Hong Kong displayed on this new poster. These wasps are insect and spider predators but also floral visitors.
