Artifacts is a product which I’ve personally been spending a lot of time on lately.
Personally, I think this product from Reforge is a masterstroke - it acts like a {StackOverflow / LinkedIn} for {Growth + Product + Company Building}
Since they opened general access last week, I’ve now got my entire team to sign up to Artifacts.
Artifacts is a UGC (User Generated Content) platform where Reforge members + others can upload pieces of work (e.g. a PRD template, Process Note etc) which they have created during their employment at an organization (with prior permissions & redactions).
Example: Last month, our Director of Product & I were hiring a PMM - I personally preferred to ~4 Artifacts regarding PMM interview guides; took a number of pointers from those templates to structure our own JD & recruitment guide.
The posts on Artifacts are quite actionable (you can clone templates or end up taking a ton of notes). And, the authors respond to questions (comments section is often the goldmine).
Here’s why I think Reforge Artifacts will be a gamechanger:
(1) Reforge’s program costs start at ~ $2,000 which is slightly prohibitive for early career Tech professionals (outside a few FAANG & other well capitalized startups) based in India / SE Asia.
(2) Reforge’s original product i.e. cohort + content library has high COGS (program directors are expensive).
- But, with Artifacts, they are able to expand their audience significantly (UGC has zero COGS - so they can offer this for free).
(3) Younger professionals who (today can’t afford Reforge) have the willingness to learn & upskill from seasoned professionals.
- Via Artifacts, they get unparalleled access to how a CXO, VP etc approach Growth, Hiring & Product problems (based on real case studies).
- This is based on feedback from my team
🧠IMO, the end goal with Artifacts would be to build a “professional network” which is built on Proof of Work (viz LinkedIn which is built on credentials)
- This would act as top of funnel for Reforge’s paid programs (similar monetization by LinkedIn Learning) and would generate direct revenue via hiring.
The best part of Artifacts is that the Reforge team has used the platform to open source many of their own processes (including Org structure, hiring philosophy) which are excellent reads.
👏Solid stuff from @bbalfour & the entire @reforge team - the release velocity here is insane (product is improving almost every day in small ways!)

These are NOT blank templates. Artifacts are the real work that contain the substance, nuance, insights, and realness.
Here are a few things you can do with Artifacts:
🔎 Find artifacts relevant to what you are working on
💡 Access notes from the creator about the story, lessons, and insights
⭐️ Save artifacts and share them with colleagues
🔁 Remix artifacts to create your own version
Artifacts is such a simple but powerful idea I can’t believe we didn’t think of it before. I’ve wasted so much time recreating something thousands of others have already done.
Artifacts can help accelerate a lot of work (like open-source code) by enabling building on each other.
Would love to know what you think.

PMs are notoriously hard to evaluate in interviews. How do you assess for things as vague and subjective as product sense, customer orientation, or leadership?

@sara_brunettini I'm finding that for me that type of motivation comes in waves. With the amount of time I spend on my laptop, I often need to just rest and do something else when I'm not working. With that said, going to museums, being in nature, cooking, etc. can all be creative outlets :)
