Kill the Ostriches? @OstrichFarmBC
Stop us if you’ve heard this before: something strange is happening in Canada. We don’t mean mass assisted suicides or Justin Trudeau wearing blackface. This story is even more bizarre. It all started in 2024, when the owners of a family farm in British Columbia noticed some of their ostriches were sick, likely plagued by avian influenza. The illness spread fast, and 69 of the flightless birds were dead within a month. May each and every one rest in peace. Thankfully, the remaining ostriches developed herd immunity and survived. A relieving ending to a tragic tale, right? Wrong. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) ordered the execution of the surviving flock anyway, painting the healthy animals as threats to the country’s poultry industry and human population. This enraged the family that runs the farm, and they’ve used every tool possible to appeal the decision and save their birds. Keep in mind when this story began: December of last year, over 250 days ago. It seems reasonable to assume that whether the Ostriches, who are still alive, are actually threats to society would have become clear by now. And it has. They’ve remained healthy the entire time, spreading no illness. So has the Canadian government backed off? Not even slightly. At least until last week. The Supreme Court of Canada allowed an interim stay of execution on Wednesday, blocking bloodthirsty officials from putting the flock to death. Despite this, the CFIA continues to occupy the farm, with over 100 agency personnel and police officers keeping a watchful eye on the purportedly dangerous birds. You probably think this all sounds a bit obsessive. We agree. According to the Canadian government, however, the entire exercise is just because they’re doing it in the name of science. The ostriches are grave threats, they say, and must be killed no matter what. But they’re forgetting something. Scientific conclusions are not etched in granite; they are supposed to evolve as new evidence emerges. In that spirit, wouldn’t it seem appropriate to test the birds for illness before ending their lives? Seems practical to us, but the CFIA is reportedly refusing and blocking the farmers from conducting tests themselves. $200,000 fines and six months in jail for each bird tested. We’re not joking. One more angle. Given how seriously the CFIA seems to take the threat these ostriches pose, its officials are doubtlessly doing everything possible to protect themselves as they occupy the farm, right? Incorrect again. CFIA personnel reportedly wore no protective gear when they first arrived, and only began donning HazMat suits after multiple days at the site. Police officers, meanwhile, stand just feet from the animals in their regular attire. No masks or no oxygen tanks. Bare faces exposed. Then, after their shifts, they return to their nearby hotels and dine at local restaurants where they could easily spread the illness their government claims is a deadly threat. But their behavior suggests no threat at all. What should we make of this? Government overreach? Check. Animal cruelty? Yes, as well. A stunning level of stubbornness? Absolutely. Why else would the government refuse to test the birds? It’s hard to think of a reason other than hard-headedness. If you ask Katie Pastiney, @KatiePasitney whose parents own the farm, the story represents a greater problem facing our neighbors to the north: the attack on freedom. “This is not just about our ostriches,” she recently said. “We keep saying that this is about our cattle farmers, our dairy farmers, our rights, our freedoms, and to be able to make the decisions for the things that we have on our own land.”
She nailed it. The government should not tread on these Ostriches. Enough is enough. We hope to report a positive development soon.

URGENT PLEA FROM CANADA TO PRESIDENT TRUMP:
Nearly 400 healthy ostriches face slaughter in B.C., despite claims they could hold the key to future medical breakthroughs.
"We need a miracle. These birds may help humanity — not harm it."

Message from Katie Pasitney
LAST STAND – UNIVERSAL OSTRICH FARM
If you’ve been waiting, wondering when the right time would be to come stand with us, that time is NOW.
We have been given notice: the killing of nearly 400 healthy, thriving ostriches could begin Saturday, Sunday, or Monday.
These animals are alive. Their hearts are beating. Their warm skin, bright eyes, and resilient strength are proof of their health. And yet — not one ostrich on our farm has ever been tested. Why? Because if they were tested, the truth would be undeniable: they are well. They are resilient. they are full of hope.
This is bigger than Edgewood. This is a battle — between big pharma and true, evidence-led, innovative science that explores natural therapeutic research capable of healing. Do you wonder why we’re being targeted?
This is not just about one farm. It’s about the future: generations to come, food security, biodiversity, and the right for science and evidence to matter more than speculation and policy.
We are calling for unity. We are calling for peace. We are calling for people power to rise up: ✦ Come to the farm. Stand with us.
@OstrichFarmBC Everyone please! repost this message 🙏🙏🙏
This is an abomination on the innocent ostriches and the farmers who have cared for them for decades.
