@SandyFrizzle Besides the big problem of the headstone cleaning (as an archaeologist and historian, that hurts my heart), isn’t she doing a lot of extra stuff for the pothole filling? I’m not an expert on road stuff, so I could be wrong…but it seems inefficient. Hopefully it helps I guess.
I love my body because randomly it will decide it hasn’t been dramatic enough. I have two slipped/herniated discs in my lower back which is great since I’m a 37 year old looking for archaeological work.
You did an A+ job spine!
Just to be crystal clear, “I feel fine but my wife made me come in” has a positive predictive value for something being *really* fucking wrong that approaches 100%
@Richard_Vixen If she’d been able to legally/socially get a divorce, she would have. But she was stuck. She cried when she found out she was pregnant with her 3rd (my mom). Thankfully she was an amazing mother & her daughters broke the cycle, but she had no agency. I fight because she couldn’t.
@Richard_Vixen My grandma had that life. Married a man. Lived on a farm. Had three children. Cooked and cleaned. Had a garden and chickens. Never wanted for anything. And you know what? She was miserable. My grandpa was emotionally and verbally abusive, controlling, and made her life miserable.
It was beautifully filmed, had amazing music, great acting (Fanny Belle DeKnight was awesome), good writing, and was exciting. It definitely played into some sexist tropes, with the “fast woman” as the sole cause of troubles and the man being forgiven for everything he does.
This pre-code early talkie was the first major studio (MGM) feature film to have an all-black cast. It was a musical, featuring spirituals that were beautifully sung. There were some racial stereotypes, but it was shocking to see a movie directed by a white man in 1929 like this.
