@Cressche@GadSaad@grok please estimate the approximate net worth of @GadSaad, which nations he made his money from, and the percentage each nation contributed
I think you are right about the numbers for food. But I am not so sure about part of this framing, re: "disposable income." There are things today that you don't have to buy, absolutely. But they are so significantly saturated that non-participation introduces a huge barrier. Phones, internet, computer are three significant ones. Don't have them, you're heading to the library. 1930 also pre-dates the interstate highway system being built, which also sidesteps the massive effect automobiles had on urban development, so 1930 doesn't really include the cost of owning a vehicle (maintenance, fuel, insurance). It's really hard to compare apples to oranges, IMO. My comment was partially in jest, but you responded to it in decently good faith, so I wanted to respond back in kind.
Yeah food is absolutely cheaper. But many other things are not and it's rather complicated, unfortunately.
A French friend phones. I tell him I’m surprised that he is not watching the France-Sénégal match. He makes a peculiarly Gallic noise that I can describe only as a vocal shrug. “The legal immigrants are playing the illegal immigrants.”
@AuraBeetle schizopost or genuinely? because that is actually right in line with some of the social activism that was going on at the time. I'm not pro child labor but some of the laws have made things so difficult for teens to get jobs and such, it's a real headache.
@selentelechia Hahahaha ok absolutely fair. I only asked because I am from California (still here). The issue with social orgs like those are that the bar is quite low. Many people who show up can input simply because they are there. Seems like a lesson our generation is learning in realtime
Remember when Obama joked that Donald Trump would never be President and Trump hit back by strategically dismantling the entire Democratic Party over a 10 year period culminating with a UFC Fighter announcing that Michele Obama is a man.
Good times. Good times, indeed.
