You gotta realize that if you embrace all the awesome stuff about America, we will not just embrace you back, we will *adopt you as one of us*. I'd give this guy a green card tomorrow, no questions asked. He's American as apple pie, hell yeah brother.
Time for my favorite end-of-school year tradition:
I write an email thanking amazing teachers for all they’ve done for our kids and name several specifics that made a difference in their learning.
And I CC the principal.
Tips to do a TV free June (or any month) with the kids:
-give them a heads up, and allow them to make plans.
-supply up. If they like to bake, stock your pantry with the good stuff. If they like art, make sure they have the paints. Walking through hobby lobby or Michael’s. Money tip: go for supplies not kits.
-have deep clean chores available for them to do for money. Have the chore and dollar amount on one side of an index card, and checklist on the other side. If they don’t have any creativity, at least they can make money. Work often unlocks creativity.
-tell them to clean their room, and don’t get after them if they get distracted. They’ll find an old toy, an old book, whatever and get distracted and start playing—which was your evil plan all along.
-put a sheet over the dining room/kitchen table, and throw toys underneath. They can’t resist it.
-Go to the library, and join their summer reading program. Go through the section of kids science projects/kids cookbooks
-Give the kids a spot in the yard that is just theirs where they can plant what they want. Alternatively, give them a pot and dirt and seeds/plants to cultivate
-Go on a hike
-make a poetry recitation challenge, with prizes. Check out all the Shel Silverstein books.
-blast music and start dancing until they’re embarrassed.
-declare its restaurant night, and ask the kids to design menus based on all the leftovers in the fridge.
Feel free to tack on your own ideas.
before i had kids i had some concept of how much additional cleaning i would be doing but what i did not prepare for was that, despite this, my house would never get any cleaner.
A patient’s relative just asked: "If a fever is the body's natural way of burning off a viral infection, why do we immediately give Paracetamol to lower it? Aren't we helping the virus?"
There is a reason Christians have historically structured their faith around spiritual rhythms. It is a simple, effective tool for growth.
But do you know what is a huge obstacle to rhythms? Small children. Big life changes. Grief.
So yes to rhythms. But also yes to grace.
Jesus instructs women to tell *the eleven* about their encounter w/Him, the Living Word.
Why do we now tell women they can’t publicly talk about the Bible or the things of God in case someone from their local church might hear?
