The best part about being an openly anxious person planning a wedding (other than, like, getting married) is all the wedding mishap tales friends have offered up as comfort. Pls share here if you feel so inclined!
Working on a list of books for @stillnorthbooks's new Criticism and Theory section when I realized... isn't every book inherently the author(s)'s theory? Someone talk me down/prevent me from removing all section signs pls.
@taylorklong NW Denver! I worked on Tennyson/lived in Berkeley and I miss that neighborhood so much. Plus you get good views of the mountains (and quicker access!).
Consider renting a car—public transit was sparse when I was there. Parking/traffic are a pain but worth it to see dif areas.
@eastie75 If it’s socially acceptable for men to walk around shirtless, why is it STILL frowned upon for women and some non-binary people not to wear an additional (sometimes uncomfortably constrictive) garment UNDERNEATH their shirt.
I know there are more important fights for our rights going on right now and second-wave feminism is problematic, but is anyone else interested in bringing back bra burning?
@alexanderchee We had a robin build above our front door earlier this spring. The best thing I learned is patience. The weirdest thing I learned is that mom and dad eat the baby’s clear poop for the first few days. And the worst thing I learned is that crows eat baby robins.
@lexiatwork @BurquenaBoricua @InOrderOfImport@nolafleurdelit I think perhaps NPD over BPD based on my experience with her. She does not outwardly crave connection like those with BPD often do. She is very grandiose. And sadly for her and her staff too symptomatic to be able to find help because it would mean acknowledging her faults :(
We appear have a bird trying to build a nest in a bad spot above a frequently used door. The nest and bird fell once already, but it seems to be trying to rebuild. Bird lovers, what do we do? And is this a metaphor?
Photo: nest remnants, which I can’t bear to sweep away.
@lexiatwork@denbookseller “Big picture” stuff that adds to her staff’s day to day workload without enough additional support was the case when I was there. I believe it’s a single member LLC but not positive. I think it has always shown a loss—wonder if that keeps the IRS at bay.
@lexiatwork@denbookseller Not to mention that not taking a salary lets her completely ignore her responsibility to create a safe workplace. If she’s not getting paid, why should she have to take care of her staff. It allows resentment to build in a dangerous way.
@michael_steffy Nothing exciting… it just makes me so sad (okay and a little triggered) whenever I hear someone refer to our selection of baked goods as dangerous to one’s physical appearance before and then ordering just a black coffee.
Hey students and profs! We're working on lists for next term's in-person coursebook shopping selection. Shoot us an email if you are teaching or taking a course that will be reading primarily trade/academic texts: hello at stillnorthbooks dot com.
