In a military exercise this summer, China used civilian cargo vessels in a way that marks a substantial development toward being able to carry enough troops, equipment and supplies for an invasion of Taiwan, says a former US submarine officer https://t.co/VQ4wtZT53L
This must-see new graphical report from @reuters uses AIS and tasked satellite imagery to examine in detail PLA landing exercises from earlier this year—including the novel use of deck cargo ships (specifically, LCTs - commercial landing craft).

Ryan does a great job explaining the data work behind our series here. It was a privilege pitching in on this one, and I’m so grateful to the many families who trusted my colleagues with their stories, so we can all learn from them.
Rich with data, maps, charts, engrossing narratives, photos, illustrations and videos, this @Reuters project explains in disturbing detail how humankind is cueing up another pandemic in the world's bat lands.

THREAD: I want to tell you a little background of our new series, which dates back to the summer of 2020 when COVID was raging around the world. My colleague Deb Nelson and I started talking about the next one and how to stop it. https://t.co/xNK2ItNshT
A new @Reuters investigation looks at bat-rich countries across the globe to learn how human destruction of wild areas is amplifying #pandemic risk. The series visits places where the risk is most acute and tells the stories of victims and their families. https://t.co/o8Yee7Mjld
@MillennialsGTA @MikePMoffatt No, I'm not sure why for profit developments (and honestly even our building) are so biased towards tiny units when there's clearly a market for bigger ones.
@HousingNowTO Actually I do know a bit about this. Construction was delayed by a small group of somewhat distant homeowners who believed we would be able to see into their backyards. I don't think that was ever true, and at least based on what I heard our actual neighbours were supportive.
@MillennialsGTA @MikePMoffatt I don't watch that closely because we don't plan to move, but I believe similar units have sold for about twice what we paid. We moved in three years, ago, though we did buy pre-construction I think four years before that.
