@hthieblot Random 1990s, off the top of my head: Sissyfight 2000, Brunching Shuttlecock's ratings, James Lileks' recaps of the Gobbler Supper Club & 70s interior design pics (might have been 2000s), Ultimate Band List, CDNow...
@MattLovesVinyl@MattBraynard Both quality + atmosphere imo! But as far as the food t's a tough needle to thread w profits (avoiding sysco slop but needing to charge higher prices). We had a different dining concept in development last year but required alcohol sales to make it work
@MattLovesVinyl@MattBraynard This is really funny bc my son and I have a running joke about buying the old PH building in town and calling it Pasta Cabin. Same concept! ๐
@MattLovesVinyl@MattBraynard Agreed, I saw that a profile on the PH Classics and it looked like the interior decor was lots of framed photos of PH in the โglory daysโโฆ very meta, very manufactured. Plus cold led lighting. Why not do it right?!
@Recliningdad@MattBraynard Yes! I made a dupe of the original pan pizza recently and it used milk powder, a surprisingly simple sauce, and a truckload of olive oil. I realized when I made it that PHโs crust was basically deep fried in oil
@realGRBrown@MattBraynard I have a couple of copycat recipes Iโve cobbled together from the depths of the Ancient Internet. I had great success w the pan pizza dupe & will try the priazzo this summer! Fingers crossed
@nnzp1730@lukeburgis I was afflicted by this prior to the internet & still managed to constantly, voraciously consume info! Devouring every bit of the daily newspaper, mags, books (the more obscure & dusty the better). The web took it to a whole new level for sure though ๐ฌ
@RizomaSchool@LadyNimby I get making it work if you're already there (or a vintage house buff) but I cannot imagine seeking out OP or Evanston energy in the year 2026. bring on the ssris & benzos
@dahfai234@MariaEyre1873 Our go-to park in Chicago was in view of the skyline and it always occurred to me that if the moms, working in said buildings, could see how the nannies actually treated their kids, they'd be fired immediately.
@laynuhpans@MariaEyre1873 I experienced the same. Also, mothers asking the nannies to coordinate playdates with mine, and the nanny literally dropping off the child(ren) at my house, while she left to do who knows what, still on the clock
@MariaEyre1873 I noticed this constantly at parks 10-15 yrs ago, as a SAHM. Nice neighborhood in Chicago. Rows of nannies on benches in their phones, utterly ignoring toddlers & preschoolers. Those kids would then flock to us bc I was actually interacting w my kids. ๐ข
@nicholascarrigg There really aren't any assuming you are able to invest in all the components (ribber bed, lace carriage, etc) -- not a cheap hobby but awesome retro tech. Cables are not a problem but do require hand manipulation. The software (XP era!) calculates sizing & works w/ charts
@CanisLupus_US@BasedTorba Why not just have the kids enjoy the tablet/creative apps but not have the internet/wifi connected on it? Especially since Covid-era Zoom isn't a requirement anymore.
@TaraAnnThieke@megha_lilly Yes! I recently stumbled across a digitized archive of pre-1920s books that cover various skills, trades, etc. (including texts for kids). It has been so fun (and educational) to pick at and read through. Wonderful depths of knowledge
