Construction cost escalation is a real challenge for developers as is shortage of contractors available in the Saint John area.

@uptownini @COB16_ To Colin’s original question, how to convert approvals into housing units, there’s only so much that can be done by say the City to influence the market and private industry. But the right government and CMHC incentives are in place, so simple patience may be part of it…

@uptownini @COB16_ …between interest rate hikes and construction cost increases I know of a project that started with a construction cost estimate of $12M and it now sits at $22M, for the same scope. Some ‘developers’ can’t weather that type of increase and may opt to sell instead

@SJEnergy Love the project and love renewable energy + storage - but did I read correctly that this will only save 80 tonnes GHG emissions annually = 180 barrels of oil? Seems underwhelming no? I didn’t see the full project cost of the megapacks, but do costs outweigh benefits here?

@uptownini I play beach vball at Carleton courts and asked the City about expanding the courts into that space (lots of people are turned away from playing each year bc there aren’t enough courts) was told there is a ‘masterplan’ (Circa 2010) for that area and the court expansion didn’t fit
