Yesterday, I was just about to throw out a bag of sides from a long-dead gazebo, but just wondered whether there might be any takers on @thisisfreegle. Clearing other rubbish from the bottom of the bag, there was my ring! Lord knows how it got there but we really do #lovefreegle!

Two years ago I really, really upset my wife when I lost my one of the matching wedding rings which we exchanged in 1998. I'd stupidly put it on my little finger, as it was getting a bit small for my ring finger, and didn't notice it fall off.

On dog walk on @BurgessField today, struck by how even the very young oaks there support such a wide variety of life: beautiful lichen; a marble gall by the wasp Andricus kollari, introduced to the UK because the high tannin content of this type of gall was useful for ink making;

These 'King Alfred's cakes' #fungi, spotted @BurgessField, always remind me of an undergraduate mycology field trip to the @nationaltrust's #leighwoods - now 35 years ago! - and I've still never put them to their ancient use of lighting a fire, or, allegedly, for curing cramps.

My mum used to tell us that, when she was growing up in rural Co. Leitrim in the 50s, she was often hungry, and would eat rosehips on the way to school. My sister and I thought she was mad because that's where 'itching powder' comes from!
