Hello #bikedc and #walkdc friends! Sign this @ward3bikes and @WABADC petition in support of a protected bike lane on Connecticut Avenue!

D.C. is on track to have the lowest number of traffic-related deaths since it committed to Vision Zero.
But activists say the city needs to be moving faster to make that dream a reality. My latest on the rough road to a safe streets policy:

"The nation’s pedestrian death toll keeps climbing unforgivingly. The number reached its highest level since 1990 last year and state after state is projected to see more carnage increase in 2019." https://t.co/gpN94AfjAu

While overall traffic fatalities fell for the second straight year in 2018, more pedestrians and bicyclists were killed, accounting for nearly 20 percent of all traffic deaths. https://t.co/lBPtkT0FQV
The pedestrian refuge is such an honest piece of infrastructure. It acknowledges a painted crosswalk wouldn't suffice because of the risk drivers pose, but also communicates a full signalled crossing (traffic lights) isn't feasible (for whatever reason).
It's a gesture.
Hey #bikedc - we really need you at 6:30PM tonight at St Johns Episcopal in Georgetown at 3240 O Street to support a high quality bikeable multi-use trail from Georgetown to the Palisades!
9 years ago, Europe saw more pedestrian fatalities per capita than did the US. Today, they have half as many per capita as we do stateside. In just one decade, Europe has dramatically reversed what many in the US see as just the cost of doing business. We can change it here too.
New 2018 data show biking and walking deaths continue their alarming upward climb.
Pedestrian deaths now higher than any time since the early 1990s. A generation of traffic safety progress for people on foot has been wiped out.

A mom getting her 12 year old daughter into her car last night was hit by a distracted driver outside @CapoeiraMalesDC Spot on RIA NE. She’ll recover with the help of 15 staples in her head. The driver told police he was texting and drifted.
Phones down, Mothers Day is coming.
Keep an eye out for these signs around town. Volunteers are installing them this weekend at the locations of fatal crashes that have happened since Jan 2018 - a total of 86. Join us May 15 at the Ride & of Walk of Silence to honor to the lives lost. RVSP: https://t.co/kKfK6w74sy
Factors such as race and wealth greatly impact pedestrian safety in Washington, D.C.’s wards, or neighborhoods. @jenny_schuetz discusses. https://t.co/O68E6yHuLX
Rally for streets that don't kill people -- Tomorrow, Fri 4/26 at noon at the Wilson Building. Suggestions: bring 5 neighbors/friends, flowers/candles, signs, and shoes you're willing to donate. Also wear a raincoat.

Okay @311DCgov@DDOTDC i have no clue how you can say that this is safe accommodation for pedestrians. According to @riotpedestrian you send inspectors out who say it’s totally fine. CROSS HERE sign where there’s no crosswalk? 17th & R NW. #VisionZero
Amsterdam will remove 1,500 parking spots a year until 2025. 11,200 in total. Bicycle parking, sidewalks, and green will replace them.
Take a moment and imagine your city with 11k less parking spaces. Have a nice weekend! https://t.co/a6Uc4OMyZq
Re-tweeting this one more time to urge Ward 3 cyclists and anyone else who bikes in DC to come to the Palisades library at 6:30PM tonight to support the creation of a multi-use trail on the Glen Echo Trolley Trail-in DC turn-out counts for a lot so please come out! #bikedc
