When I use Social Media I see so many posts that you can tell are rooted in misinformation. Unfortunately algorithms prevent a lot of unneutral research and make it is easy for people to reinforce their conformation biases #unboundeq

Even brand new technology is never a neutral. With the technology we use we have to be mindful of where it came from, how it works, who is excluded, and what we are participating in. We should think critically about what a technology does & how it truly functions

I like to be informed with current events and try to see both sides an argument. Unfortunately, this tells the algorithms to bring up information that can be misinformed, negative, or hateful. Nothing worse then the automatic fake news popups of the evil overlords! #unboundeq

A lot of the time the “best interest of the public” is only the best for the dominant group & can be exclusive to others. From the POV of an educator we need to ensure, even with algorithms and the technology we choose to use, that everyone’s voices are supported #unboundeq

We have a hard time getting the kids to realize that Youtube isn’t television, it's a black box. Even if they have good intentions, some videos aren't in their best interest! Plus with the ads you never know what the algorithm will show a little kid or what they'll see #unboundeq

Data collection is being used by companies to filter out candidates that do not fit their “typical” employee. Its pretty unreal to realize that algorithms are reinforcing barriers to keep us apart and hinder equal opportunities #unboundeq

A point that Dr. Benjamin brought up was how defunding can actually work backwards. Many public and civil services are not inclusive. The funding was being allocating to different services that were still rooted in systematic racism #unboundeq

When the algorithms get things wrong, they really get things wrong. As an independent working female, I still get a lot of ads targeted towards how I should be raising a family or taking care of a husband
