For those who have a birder identity crisis...I don’t consider myself much of a birder but I heard my first phoebe of the year today and about lost my goddam mind #notabirder#lovebirdsthough
@paothescientist I haven't been on twitter at all this semester so I missed so much from you! Hope your writers block cleared - I find that sometimes I just have to set a timer and say I'm going to write crap for 25 minutes. Doesn't matter how bad it is...just write.
Sick dog + snow storm caused me a lot of stress the last few days. We finally saw the vet today and hope all the drugs kick in soon. How do people do this with human children?! It's heartbreaking to see them sick.
@PeretzLange only at purchase! I agree, it adds up and it doesn't seem right to me. I got lucky bc my research trips are out of state because they have to reimburse other state taxes (just won't reimburse NY sales tax)
@Jess_A_Castillo I think the issue I have is that there isn't enough space... So it's not like I just get a lab on a different floor for a while, I have to share labs (like right now physics and ecology share?)
Has anyone ever had their science building fully renovated (down to studs) while you are still using it? We are currently being given a plan for a phased renovation where we all have to move around the building... for 6 years. Each of 4 floors goes offline for 18 months.
At first I thought it was just inconvenient, but now I'm having a big moment of realizing we will really not be able to work... and there is no way we can recruit quality students when we don't really have functional research or teaching labs.
@JJinsing I keep thinking we should set something like this up through afo...like free early career group therapy. but no one knows what they are doing?
@JJinsing I've been struggling with this so much post phd! The phd anxiety got me to write but now I just can't find the motivation. I don't need to write a ton in my job so I'm trying a zoom writing group so that I know I set aside at least 2 hours a week to look at manuscripts
I'm 100% drowning in work right now but hit a mental road block today where I can get nothing done. I know this feeling, I know the answer is to take a break, but I still feel like I can't/shouldn't. Why is it so hard?
AOS members, please consider adding your name to this open letter. The resources that the OC provides are so important to all of us working with birds.
Any members of @AmOrnith please take a look at this open letter to leadership https://t.co/sECTdHgJkO The OC is a critical resource for anyone working with birds in the field and we need to support it.
@Jen_A_Smith1 @DrBirdLady@austinrspence@AvinetResearch Using mine from third wheel yesterday and they were great .. but they were a pain to purchase and a US based company that checks permits is needed (nudge nudge)
@DrBirdLady@austinrspence I got mine from third wheel ringing supplies in the UK... They took a long time but they would ship to the US. I wish there was someplace in the US but I couldn't find one.
Is anyone else in the northeast having birds completely draining bird feeders this fall? Even at my newly established feeding station on campus, we are flying through seed. Wondering if it has to do with our summer drought?
I've been kinda apathetic about Twitter lately bc it was giving me anxiety to see how productive other people seem... But this outpouring of positivity post #AFO100 is just exactly what I needed!
