We are deeply saddened by the passing of Marjane Satrapi, the acclaimed Franco-Iranian artist, filmmaker, and author of the internationally celebrated graphic novel Persepolis who died at the age of 56.
Marjane Satrapi was a fearless voice for feminism, human rights, and freedom. Through her work and public engagement, she consistently advocated for women’s rights, standing in solidarity with the people of Iran and amplifying the message of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement on the global stage.
According to a statement from her family, Marjane Satrapi “died of sadness” a little more than a year after the passing of her husband, Mattias Ripa, a producer, actor, and screenwriter, who died on April 8, 2025.
Marjane Satrapi leaves behind a powerful cultural, artistic, and moral legacy. Her courage will continue to resonate far beyond her lifetime.

pretty depressing seeing “leftists” on here act like what happened in australia is NBD or somehow warranted because of israel. i know it’s just a few trolls on the internet but i would like to not be associated with or in any kind of movement with people like that
rewatched When Harry Met Sally on my flight this morning and the only thought I have had for several hours is “making a movie like When Harry Met Sally is probably the most difficult thing anybody has event done”
For all those in Toronto on Nov 6 🩵✨🥀@thewalrus

Cogent @jonahweiner quote in this SSENSE autopsy:
“I don’t think that buying clothes online actually feels very good. It doesn’t feel good for me to be, essentially, constantly in a store, in the sense that, anytime I’m on my phone, I can slip into the same acquisitive mindset"
Björk says her childhood friend Magga Stína has been kidnapped by the Israeli army:
“She sailed on a boat following Greta Thunberg in trying to open the path for international aid to Gaza.”
Holocaust Survivor and trauma specialist Dr. Gabor Maté on Going Underground:
“There's always this question of ‘is the Israeli response to October 7th proportionate or disproportionate?’
Another question is, ‘is October 7th a proportionate response to 80 years of oppression?'”
Today marks two years since the attack by Palestinian resistance groups against Israel
My friend and comrade David Adler was abducted by Israel for attempting to deliver aid to Gaza.
He has still not been released.
We call for David's immediate release, along with all other crew members of the Global Sumud Flotilla.
The siege is a crime. Breaking it is not.
My dear friend @davidrkadler was kidnapped & imprisoned by Israel for daring to bring aid to Gaza. Flotilla prisoners report horrific abuse. The US has failed its own citizen.
David wouldn't want us to make this about him, but as he acted for Gaza, we must act to bring him home.
I’m hearing that Democratic senators @AdamSchiff and @AlexPadilla4CA have done nothing to assist their constituent who has been kidnapped by the IDF for attempting to break the illegal and genocidal siege on Gaza. Disgusting.
.@davidrkadler's mother tells me: "David is now in an Israeli prison and his US senators (Schiff and Padilla) are not being helpful. The EU is all over the prison and our embassy has not shown up at all."
Hey, @SenAdamSchiff and @AlexPadilla4CA. A constituent of yours is in a foreign prison for trying to draw the world's attention to mass starvation and slaughter.
His Jewish mother is sick with worry. Maybe you should do something about David's imprisonment--and the imprisonment and destruction of two million people in Gaza.
