May Europe one day wake up and start striving for this level of capitalistic homerun. Dump the degrowth nonsense, celebrate progress, and once again reach for the stars.
No coordination, no case handling. Just manual, blunt decisions.
And then the government talks about attracting people back from places like Luxembourg?
Why would anyone move into a system where core institutions are this unreliable?
Portugal: state-owned bank Caixa Geral de Depósitos is mass-closing accounts effective Aug 14.
Generic notice, no explanation. Reports: targeting clients with Russian passports without a valid residence card — including those stuck in AIMA backlog.
AIMA is also state-run. Also not working properly. One state entity delays your residency for months → puts you in limbo
Another state entity shuts down your bank account for not having it
Same state. Same dysfunction.
@Jorgey_x Rush hours are important only if you work strictly from 9 to 5, if you are flexible (like most people in tech), you don't need to drive at peak time
bought an apartment in Seixal, the prices are half of what i've seen in Lisbon, and I have 20 minutes ferry to the Cais de Sodre. I've lived in Telheiras before (great neighborhood btw) and it took me longer to visit the citycentre
if you want to live 30min away from the center of lisbon buy land in the blue area.
if you are ok with 45min, then you have all that green area.
(average times)
this is for all those PT people that think they need to spend 90% of their salary in rent.
@Jorgey_x I need less even during rush hour, because I live close to the ferry
And most of the time I just drive on a different time, 30 min by car would get me mostly anywhere I need. E.g. I go to the gym at 8-30 and at 9-45 there is no traffic anymore.
@Gonzohall I use UrbanSports subscription, which monthly subscription can be cancelled anytime. they include Solinca and a lot of other places. There is also ClassPass alternative
Nah the definitions of left and right really don't work anymore I think
We're in a completely different world
The liberal left of the 1960s hippies would now be classified as extreme right:
- anti pharma and vaccines
- anti war
- distrust of the CIA (and deep state)
- anti mainstream media
- off grid, self sufficient, trad life
- anti processed food, anti GMO, anti seed oils, instead pro organic/bio food
- free speech absolutism
- anti psychiatry and psych meds
- use psychedelics instead of meds
So I don't think the terms make sense anymore
2nd time: Tracked it to a specific house and could hear it beeping inside. Police gave the exact same excuse: "we can't enter private property."
His solution? He just went and stole it back himself again 🤷♂️
Saw a crazy similar story in a local Lisbon tech chat. The EXACT SAME GUY had his AirTag-equipped e-scooter stolen TWICE.
1st time: Tracked it live, chased the thief down on a rental bike, confronted him on the street and took it back.
My friend's private office / coworking in Lisbon got burglared at night
They took his Apple Studio Display of about $4000, he even made a custom travel case for it which had an Airtag on it, the criminals were smart and packed it in his case and took it
He had an Airtag on it so tracked it, he found it in a warehouse south of Lisbon
He reported it to Portuguese police, and showed where it was with the Airtag, they said they couldn't do anything because it was inside a building and by law they could not enter private property to recover it
If they can't then what is police even for?
