Sadly, I am less shocked by the behavior of the RSF as I am the craven indifference of the international community that continues to see these belligerents as equals.

I really applaud Haavisto for going to Chad, but I hope he focuses his efforts on the Deby regime's role in playing both sides of the conflict, and particularly his direct support to the RSF via UAE supply lines, and not just thank him for allowing refugees in. Sudan in English is, paradoxically, a very different place from Sudan in Arabic.

In English, El-Obeid is "about to fall" to UAE's militias.

The UK was not uniquely placed to stop a massacre in Darfur. Being the penholder for Sudan in an institution as broken as the UN Security Council is hardly a tool for impacting the course of global events anymore. Scapegoating the UK lets the rest of the international community off the hook for a systemic and institutional failure of the people of El Fasher.
