RFK JR: "20 years ago NIH scientists did a study on amyloid on Alzheimer's in which they said it was caused by amyloid plaque. After that NIH shut down studies of any other hypothesis. Twenty years later we now know that those studies were fraudulent. NIH has funded 800 studies on a fraudulent hypothesis and we've lost 20 years in figuring out how to a cure for Alzheimer's. And that's just one example. I could give you hundreds. We need to end that."
Roughly 2 in 5 US adults over age of 55 will develop some form of dementia during their remaining life span, according to a new large-scale analysis published yesterday. The findings imply the number of diagnosed cases will double from around 500K to about 1M annually by 2060.
Alzheimer's disease (AD), also referred to simply as Alzheimer's, is a neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and progressively worsens. It is the cause of 60–70% of cases of dementia. The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events. As the disease advances, symptoms can include problems with language, disorientation (including easily getting lost), mood swings, loss of motivation, self-neglect, and behavioral issues.
The course of Alzheimer's is generally described in three stages, with a progressive pattern of cognitive and functional impairment. The three stages are described as early or mild, middle or moderate, and late or severe. The disease is known to target the hippocampus which is associated with memory, and this is responsible for the first symptoms of memory impairment. As the disease progresses so does the degree of memory impairment.
Alzheimer's disease is characterised by loss of neurons and synapses in the cerebral cortex and certain subcortical regions. This loss results in gross atrophy of the affected regions, including degeneration in the temporal lobe and parietal lobe, and parts of the frontal cortex and cingulate gyrus. Degeneration is also present in brainstem nuclei particularly the locus coeruleus in the pons.
The biggest barrier to people seeking a diagnosis is thinking memory loss is a normal sign of ageing. @DrAmirKhanGP is here to explain the difference.

Advocates, we did it! 🎆The bipartisan BOLD Reauthorization Act has been signed into law.
This critical bill will ensure that state, local and tribal public health officials have the resources they need to care for and support those impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
Thank you, advocates, for making this incredible step forward in the fight to #ENDALZ possible. You took action online, shared your stories and met with your elected officials. We greatly appreciate your dedication and hard work. https://t.co/IudAfv5MZG
Studies show that drinking two to three cups of coffee a day can protect your liver from damage caused by too much alcohol or an unhealthy diet. Some research suggests it may lower your risk of liver cancer. https://t.co/lkisk6zfvp
I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health. The Safety and Health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this Country. Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!
