It was a pleasure hosting @GuilhermedeJong in our group for the last 14 months.
We thank him for his hard work simulating hybrid breeding programs and evaluating genomic selection models for early stages of selection.
Have a safe flight and all the best in completing your PhD.
We are honoured to mentor @O_M_Powell as our first PhD Student and seeing him progressing over the years into an amazing scientist. He's starting a postdoc with Mark Cooper at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.
Wish Owen all the best in his future career. We will miss you!
New Preprint: Genomic selection strategies for clonally propagated crops. GS in clones needs cross prediction for parent selection or else inbreeding depression can limit gain. Led by @christ_raw with @GregorGorjanc@ChrisGaynor11@driscollsberry https://t.co/5qHCsxj3YR
We are looking for a Post-doctoral researcher in quantitative genetics to join our team and
participate in the Excellence in Breeding program at the @roslininstitute .
Applications closing on the 13th July.

Thanasis has recently joined our team at the @roslininstitute as a Scientific Software Engineer to help develop the AlphaSimR software platform and make it more accessible to its users.
Welcome Thanasis!
New preprint: A Two-Part Strategy using Genomic Selection in Hybrid Crop Breeding Programs. Led by @O_M_Powell in collaboration with @ChrisGaynor11 @christ_raw @GregorGorjanc
Hybrid programs using two-part strategy = big increase in rate of genetic gain.

AlphaGenes would like to introduce our newest group member, @NelsonLubanga1.
Nelson will be working with our industrial partner @BASFAgro as a @TRAINatEd_MSCA Research Fellow to implement a two-part breeding strategy into their program. Welcome Nelson! @roslininstitute
AlphaGenes and @HighlanderLab decided to support farmers through the COVID-19 crisis. We donated to @FCNcharity as they are helping farm businesses to adapt and stay resilient through this challenging time.
We can all do something to support those who are currently struggling.
AlphaGenes and @HighlanderLab are aware of the importance of social interaction, so we continue to enjoy coffee breaks with each other while we work from home.
@HickeyJohn@AndrewCZWhalen AlphaPeel was critical to this paper https://t.co/X8s24QQ6Hb. We were dealing with half a million variants in ~4,000 progeny and multiple generations.
After careful consideration and consultation with the University of Edinburgh policies we have decided that we need to re-schedule the course.
Data Driven Animal and Plant Breeding and Genetics Course will take place from the 3rd to 14th May 2021 in Edinburgh.
2 new Research Fellow positions available at AlphaGenes!
We are looking for Post-doctoral researchers in quantitative genetics to join our team and
participate in the Excellence in Breeding program.
Applications closing on the 9th April.
