VANCE: “We were right on the cusp of a major breakthrough… and then there’s a big explosion in a civilian area in Beirut, killing people who have nothing to do with Hezbollah.
That’s not acceptable.”
Today palpable joy broke out online when an American politician finally defied Israel and even put them in their place a little. It was so unusual that it was little hard to believe. If Trump and Vance keep this up, their numbers will bounce back up in a way that'll shock people.
JD Vance is speaking on behalf of all Americans who are tired of Israel dictating our foreign policy.
Israel is not our country, and not our problem.
It’s time for a breakup.
WE ARE DONE.
US Vice President JD Vance lashed out at Israeli critics of the Iran deal, saying Trump is Israel's 'only powerful' ally, in a sharp rebuke that referenced the billions in US defense aid the country receives https://t.co/83ZRLgPIxG
If you were to write this headline or article in a variety of US, UK, German or French media outlets, your career might be on the line and you’d probably be accused of antisemitism.
And yet the author of this piece is a former prime minister for Israel.

Vice President JD Vance warns U.S. critics in Israel against "attacking the only powerful ally" it has left in an extraordinary rebuke. https://t.co/aFSYeJv8w0
Finally! This is the kind of energy we need from our leaders. I hate to give @JDVance credit, but he’s obviously correct here. It’s infuriating to see them assume they can boss us around when we’re their only remaining ally and they owe us everything.
1. JD Vance is correct.
Israel exists because of the US.
2. It’s clear they are now distancing themselves from Israel. They want out of Iran. They took a bad deal because they want out. They want to make sure if/when Israel continues attacking, it’s on them and not us.
"When it comes to Israel right now, the United States isn't mincing its words."
After JD Vance spoke earlier to "rebuke" Israel during a press conference, US correspondent @skydavidblevins said it was "unprecedented".

I am proud to be the first Democrat to take this pledge to reject money from AIPAC and affiliated groups, recognize the genocide in Gaza, and oppose aid to Israel and military sales that kill civilians.
I never heard such brutal honesty about the state of Israel from an American official before. Those in the Biden administration would sooner sell their organs than say something like this publicly. In one soundbite he exposes Israel’s utter international isolation and its complete dependence on the US for its security. The masks and the gloves are off.
Breaking news: Israeli leaders need to “wake up and smell the reality” that they are isolated internationally, Vice President JD Vance said, responding to Israeli criticism of the deal the Trump administration struck with Iran. https://t.co/Go1n1tgMXE
JD Vance is not changing the conversation about Israel in the US. He is changing the entire paradigm:
He is reminding the Israelis that they are alone and - though he doesn't use this word - much disliked internationally. Israel should not undermine the only strong friend they have left.
"If I was in the cabinet of the Israeli government, I might not be attacking the only powerful ally that I have left."
And, he is reminding them of their utter dependence on the United States.
Because 2/3 of the weapons that have protected Israel (!!) "have been built by American hands and paid for by American tax dollars."
As a point of comparison, no one in the Biden admin ever spoke like this about Israel when Netanyahu was blowing through Biden's so-called red lines on Gaza...
