New in @eLife: our article dissociating top-down and bottom-up pupil dynamics during belief updating (article link: https://t.co/3LeRZEvxe9)
Co-authored with Chris Glaze, Joe Kable, and Josh Gold (@Penn and @PennMindCORE). See attached thread for the pre-print summary.
New preprint! We use a new task to show that pupil dynamics reflect computations required to update beliefs, which we dissociate from low-level stimulus properties (switches). These effects were also modulated by idiosyncratic subject beliefs. Details in thread. 1/8
No more image searches? Generative artificial intelligence can help designers come up with new ideas by creating images based on text prompts. @twmalone@_alicecai@JennyHeyman10@alsfilip@matthewkhong https://t.co/bn5lhMrGw7
as “AI” achieves ever-higher capacities, we have serious questions: is current AI conscious? how would we know? what if we're wrong, in either direction? attributing C to a non-conscious system has societal implications, but reverse may be morally worse. https://t.co/DcgRaRIzjS
If you're doing hierarchical bayesian modeling for cognitive models, @bbbbaribault Beth's new paper is a must read! Highlighting all the most recent best practices, includes a new @matlab toolbox for visualization

Excited to share that our paper "Save a Tree or 6 kg of CO2? Understanding Effective Carbon Footprint Interventions for Eco-Friendly Vehicular Choices" won an honorable mention 🏆 at #CHI2023 (Part of my amazing internship @ToyotaResearch w/ @ayman, @alsfilip, Nayeli, and Scott)
PhD research internships at Meta Reality Labs! We’re exploring adaptive input and interfaces for AR and VR. Come invent the future with us in 2023. See my website for prior internship and scientist projects from our lab.
Interested? Dm with resume.
Super excited to share a preprint! At @Caltech, we build the first closed-loop brain-machine (#BMI) interface that is able to decode internal speech 💭. Check it out here: https://t.co/8bNDtGA6w2
My team (Future Product Innovation) is hiring interns for Summer 2023. I am looking for PhD students interested in using generative AI (e.g., Stable Diffusion) models to facilitate creative work in conceptual design. More below.

@gershbrain@mdlBayes@mhtessler Myung, Balasubramanian, and Pitt’s Information Geometric interpretation (measuring the volume of possible distinct data sets a model can produce) seems to cover what you’re looking for: https://t.co/g52k6Bo7p2
Massive news: eLife to abolish accept/reject decisions: papers will just be “peer reviewed”. Others can argue about this, but lots of interesting consequences. 1/9 https://t.co/FedRxI62iC
Our paper on aging and episodic memory-guided social decision-making is out now in PNAS!!! (w/ @Indecisionwins@KA_MacNear@franreckers@Laura_A_Zaneski & twitterless Joe Kable & Dave Wolk)
Very short thread to follow... https://t.co/9en3M948Mg
When in doubt, leave it out? This simple strategy explains how we make the best of our cognitive limitations when tracking the uncertain source of noisy sensory signals. New study led by Julie Drevet, out now in @NatureHumBehav. 🎉 Summary thread below: 👇

Super pleased to announce that my work with individuals with ventromedial frontal damage has been *finally* published in Nature Communications! https://t.co/apuCQOeObd
Hi everyone, I tried my hand at writing a policy brief! It has some of my thoughts on how to curb misinformation on social media (like the one we are on!), by changing the ways platforms recommend content, and using the psychology of belief updating.
