پاکستان کے نوجوانوں کو اپنی توانائیاں مثبت انداز میں صرف کرنے کے مواقع فراہم کیلئے میں نے گزشتہ روز ملک گیر کھیلوں کے فروغ اور عالمی معیار کی سہولیات فراہم کرنے کیلئے یوتھ اسپورٹس انیشی ایٹیو (Prime Minister's Youth Sports Initiative)کا آغاز کیا ہے۔ پاکستان کی آبادی کی اکثریت نوجوانوں پر مشتمل ہے مگر بد قسمتی سے نہ صرف مقامی بلکہ بین الاقوامی کھیلوں کیلئے بھی سہولیات کا شدید فقدان ہے۔ اس کے پیش نظر ہم نے ملک کی پہلی اسپورٹس یونیورسٹی کا سنگ بنیاد اور اسپورٹس اینڈاؤمنٹ فنڈ قائم کیا ہے۔

اس کے علاوہ باصلاحیت اور بہترین کارکردگی دکھانے والے کھلاڑیوں کی حوصلہ افزائی، بین الاقوامی مقابلوں کیلئے کھلاڑیوں کی تربیت اور دیگر اقدامات سے ملک بھر میں کھیلوں کا فروغ یقینی بنایا جائے گا. تاریخ گواہ ہے کہ پاکستان کے باصلاحیت نوجوانوں کو جب جب بھی موقع دیا گیا، انہوں نے پوری دنیا میں سبز ہلالی پرچم کو حسن کارکردگی سے سربلند کیا۔ مجھے یہ بھی ادراک ہے کہ یہ اقدامات ناکافی ہیں مگر یہ ایک اچھا نقطہ آغاز ہے. مجھے پوری امید ہے کہ آئندہ حکومتیں ان اقدامات کا تسلسل قائم رکھیں گی۔

A old medal courtesy Arshad Nadeem and a bronze thanks to the brave effort by debutant Altaf ur Rehman in para table tennis.
