This account is where I share my political views. My views used to be center-left before everything had to align with imaginary oppressor vs oppressed lines
@rebels2008@Aizenberg55@PhilGordonDC Or maybe because none of these Arab parties have been able to publically declare Hamas as a terrorist organization? Is there a chance that the Jewish side finds that a bit problematic?
@blizz488@AvrahamShusteri@RabbiPoupko How so? Show me one poll or statistic that shows that a significant number of Arab Israelis support Hamas or October 7th.
@ShieldOfTruth_@rachelbsol18 How do? Because they went and exercise their right to vote? Is Israel a democracy or not? Because if you issue is anti-Zionist voting, then you should also count many Haredi votes as anti-Zionist
@parrhizzia@LizHurra The fact that there was such a high Arab participation and ultimately affected the results shows you are wrong. The US South prevented blacks from voting. Do you understand the difference between not being able to vote and not? Your comparison and labels are stupid!
@zoemariets@afalkhatib I meant Area C, but let’s stick to area A. If area A is fully controlled by the PA ( which it is even if under military control from Israel ), why haven’t Palestinians vote in Area A? Why would Israel negotiate with Palestinians if they cannot demonstrate basic self governance?
@zoemariets@afalkhatib Área A is still controlled by Israel as per Oslo Accords. Regardless, Palestinians do not want to be part of Israel and have no excuse for demonstrating that they can govern themselves democratically.
@zoemariets@afalkhatib Outside its borders, it is up to the PA ( and Hamas ) to conduct elections. Have they? Why don’t you start there because asking Israel to somehow fix this problem for Palestinians
There is something deeply unsettling about politicians warning that members of a particular group are voting in large numbers. We have grown so accustomed to this rhetoric in Israel that we barely notice it anymore. But we should.
Imagine American politicians warning next week that too many Jews are turning out to vote in Michigan. The outrage would be obvious.
Are there legitimate reasons to debate whether Arab political parties should be part of the next government? Yes. But portraying high voter turnout among Arab citizens as a threat to Israel’s future is something entirely different.
@osha3264@WalshFreedom Palestinians are supposed to vote within their territory ( aren’t they recognized as a state by many countries ). The PA just delayed elections again for fairs that Hamas would win. And no elections in Gaza since 2006. Go complain to Palestinians
My co-author (& brother-in-law) @saulsinger made Aliyah with my sister Wendy in 1994. They live in Jerusalem, where they have raised three children. Here’s Saul’s take on the election, the stakes and his support for @naftalibennett https://t.co/myqboazUJ3
@thevillagerabbi The goal at this point should be to have a government in Israel that is able to do basic diplomacy so global center left/right are able to defend not turning Israel into a North Korea.
@thevillagerabbi The problem is that some people think that just because some percent of the global population will always hate Israel, it is ok to have far right fanatics in the government who have, without any doubt, make defending Israel that much more challenging for the rest
@Nolos1998@thecyrusjanssen@BillAckman Don't bother. Anyone who calls themselves “Democrats for Palestine” is a person who has built their entire identity around this one issue. You can be sure all their friends are the same, and for them to consider something different would be social suicide.
@HeTows@glooyan38681 There is no preparing. If the US actually starts any financial sanctions, Israel won’t be able to survive, both economically and militarily.
It is very easy to prevent. Just keep the far right out of any coalition. Help the center left/right around the world defend Israel
@Nadav_Eyal@Nadav_Eyal for the record, it is incredible that it has to be Netanyahu himself and not the Israeli media, who has been ignoring the gravity of the effect of the far right fanatics and the effect on every country responding negatively. The problem is exactly what it leads to
@Feverpitch32371@composer_1983@Nadav_Eyal So Obama alone? Nothing to do with Netanyahu responding by going directly to congress and making Israel a partisan issue? Nothing to do with Netanyahu making a coalition with far right fanatics that even center left democrats cannot defend?
