Edward Hopper didn't just paint solitude: he lived it.
He turned isolation into a masterclass of light and shadow, capturing the beautiful ache of being alone.
Sarcopenia is Silent Loss of Muscle with Age . Sarcopenia is the gradual loss of muscle mass, strength, and physical function that occurs as people grow older. It can begin as early as the age of 30–40 years and becomes more noticeable after 60 years. While some muscle loss is a natural part of aging, sarcopenia becomes a health problem when it affects daily activities and independence.
The most common signs include muscle weakness, tiredness, reduced stamina, difficulty climbing stairs, getting up from a chair, carrying groceries, slower walking speed, and frequent falls. Some people may also notice visible thinning of muscles.
Sarcopenia can have serious consequences. It increases the risk of falls, fractures, disability, hospitalization, and loss of independence. Older adults with sarcopenia often have a poorer quality of life and a higher risk of illness and death. The condition is common but often goes undiagnosed.
The main cause is aging, but several factors can worsen it. These include lack of physical activity, prolonged bed rest, poor nutrition, inadequate protein intake, obesity, diabetes, chronic illnesses, inflammation, and hormonal changes.
The good news is that sarcopenia can often be prevented, slowed, or even partially reversed. The most effective treatment is regular strength or resistance training, such as weight lifting, resistance band exercises, or body-weight workouts performed 2–3 times per week. Adequate protein intake, a balanced diet, correction of vitamin D deficiency, and staying physically active are equally important.
Early screening and intervention are essential. Maintaining an active lifestyle, eating sufficient protein, and addressing health problems promptly can help preserve muscle strength, mobility, and independence well into older age. - Happy Reading ♥️
