Flock Safety explicitly states that customers own and control access to the data their cameras collect.

Their website says:

“Data collected through Flock systems belongs to the customer operating those systems… Flock does not claim ownership of customer data, use it for advertising, or sell it to third parties.”

Eagle Sports Range just released a statement that they contracted with Flock Safety for cameras. After the cameras were installed and running, and after a viral video helped them see the privacy concerns the cameras caused, they contacted Flock and asked them to remove the cameras.

Flock’s response was that Eagle Sports Range was “contractually obligated” to keep the cameras in place.

Why did Flock contractually obligate them to keep the cameras in place and collecting data?

If the client alone owns and controls the data, and if Flock neither accesses it nor sells it to third parties, why does the contract require the cameras to remain operational?

We could understand if Flock said they would take the cameras down but that the client would still have to pay for them. But they didn’t say that. They said, in so many words, they wanted the data.

So, once again, we have hard evidence that Flock is collecting data from their customers, lying to everyone about it, and using that data for some undisclosed purpose.

The question that remains is, what are they doing with our data?

Or maybe the better question to ask is, what is the worst they could be doing with our data?

If we could prove they are doing this, we could take the company down.
