I'm done; I can't take the stink of insecurity & white victimhood from the C-suite any more, the defense of segregationists & white supremacists. You know it's really gotten messed up when they drive away a conservative, middle-aged, Midwestern white guy. Follow @BestOfDyingTwit!
I'd hoped to hold out long enough to see something else gain traction as a "worldwide town square," but not yet. Good luck @JoinMastodon and @AT_Protocol/@BlueSky. -over-and-out-

@jenntakahashi@bestofdyingtwit@joinmastodon@bluesky Maybe @Apple or @Google could offer free accounts on servers federated with one or the other of those networks, as the now offer email (etc,), but then they’d be on the hook for moderation - thereby asking for lots of flak. But who else could scale to serve the general public?
@jenntakahashi@bestofdyingtwit What do you think can replace Twitter? I’m on @JoinMastodon and have applied to @Bluesky, but the former is a hassle for non-techies to make useful and the latter seems to be planning to stay invitation-only for the foreseeable future (please correct me if I’m wrong).
@jenlooper@bluesky@CNN@joinmastodon So - a centralized, advertising-funded service like Twitter, but with the ability to federate with other “AT Protocol” servers for users who don’t like the centralized instance’s moderation, say? That might scale - easy, free signup, but with federated options too if users want.
@jenlooper@bluesky@CNN@joinmastodon So how does this scale? Big companies could provide Mastodon accounts like they offer free email; @Apple could certainly afford to give them to all Apple ID holders. They could also afford to do good moderation; but would they want the flak from the right-wing whimpering machine?
@jenlooper@bluesky@CNN@joinmastodon Running the servers/administration/moderation costs money and labor; if it's not paid by subscription, or "surveillance capitalism" and advertising, we have only the capacities of those individuals with the goodwill to create (say) Mastodon instances, with at most tip-jar income.
@ev_association@edbegleyjr@ElaineBorseth@MachE_VLOG Did you know that your trip will overlap with the 25th anniversary of Kris Trexler’s Charge Across America? (Some of the same stops, too, I think.) His #EV1 is now a crown jewel of the @Petersen_Museum, if you have time to detour there before heading east. https://t.co/v6hM8kgI7E
This trip will overlap w/the 25th anniversary of Kris Trexler’s Charge Across America (https://t.co/v6hM8kgI7E). His #EV1 is now a crown jewel of the @Petersen_Museum. At some stops he had to charge using a line dropped from a power pole! Things sure have changed… @PlugInAmerica
If you're in Santa Monica tomorrow @ 10AM, come on by & kick off the #routezero relay, featuring a coast-to-coast event to support clean air stds & #EV driving. #F150lightning #

@Petersen_Museum Ah! I failed to pick up on the reference to wind-tunnel slipstreams when you unveiled the redesign of the building, but now that you’ve pointed it out, it’s a great connection!
Just in time for #EarthDay2023, @RevoluSun added more #solar panels and battery backup to our rooftop #PV system. Even with our @NissanElectric LEAF, this should cover all our electricity use, and provide buffering to the @HwnElectric grid too!
@jenlooper Hrm - they also describe electric-only driving as “Leave the neighborhood quietly with Stealth Mode, which utilizes the electric drive unit to let you drive short distances at limited speeds using electric power to the front axles.” Not a plug-in, then, just an ordinary hybrid.
