Access to reliable electricity is a catalyst for inclusion, productivity, and economic transformation. Today, we announced a USD 50 million, five-year financing facility to the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (@UEDCLTD) to accelerate power distribution across the country.
This landmark facility, UEDCL’s first-ever debt financing, will enable the connection of over 200,000 new customers by 2026, while strengthening network reliability through targeted upgrades, reduced technical losses, and expanded grid infrastructure into underserved communities. It will also support digital metering and the integration of renewable and distributed energy solutions to future-proof Uganda’s power system.
The announcement was led by @DavidAWandera, FCCA, our Managing Director, and Paul Mwesigwa, Managing Director, UEDCL, reaffirming a shared commitment to strengthening Uganda’s power sector and supporting long-term national development.
The partnership directly supports Uganda’s Vision 2040 and National Development Plan (NDP) IV, reinforcing the role of energy as a foundation for inclusive growth, job creation, and sustainable industrialisation.
At Absa, we believe sustainable infrastructure is essential to unlocking human potential because when communities are powered, possibilities follow.
