In 1948, Israel committed one of the gravest injustices of the 20th century: the forced expulsion of more than 800,000 Palestinians from their homes and the destruction or erasure of over 500 villages.
Between 1936 and 1948, Zionist gangs were responsible for the killing of more than 6,000 Palestinians in the lead-up to the state’s establishment.

On May 14, 1948, Israel declared its independence. Less than a year later, on May 11, 1949, the United Nations admitted Israel as a member state—despite these crimes.
To this day, Palestine is still not a member of the UN.

By the end of 1949, just 18 months after its declaration, 54 countries had officially recognized Israel.
Of note: France recognized Israel on January 24, 1949.

As Israel commits genocide in its most sadistic forms, are new conditions being quietly slipped into the defunct peace process? And still no word on justice, accountability, or reparations, without which peace is unacceptable (post-WWII history docet).

As always, the devil is in the details. May colonial boots and hats be left at the doorstep of every future political discussion.
