From today, customs duties apply to e-commerce parcels worth up to €150 entering the EU.
30 million Europeans work in retail; it's our our largest private-sector employer.
And the surge in low-value online imports has put our retailers at an unfair disadvantage.
Too many of these products also fail to meet EU safety standards, putting consumers at risk.
Today's change is about restoring fairness for European businesses and better protecting our consumers.

The EU Commission in Brussels has shut off airco, but only for the lower floors, where the lower ranks work:
“It’s like feudalism,” a Commission official working on a lower level of the Berlaymont, granted anonymity to speak freely, told POLITICO on Friday, referring to the fact that upper floors housing commissioners got to keep their AC on. A second official agreed it was a “disgrace.” https://t.co/DWUnu3Wz3C
Europe: 175,000 heat-related deaths per year.
Road deaths: ~20K
Suicides: ~48K
Heat kills 3.5x more than road accidents and more than road deaths + suicides combined.
Mind blown!
AC penetration:
• Japan: ~89–91%
• United States: ~88–90%
• South Korea: ~86–98%
• Singapore: ~77–80%
• China: ~60–80%
• Vietnam: ~41%
• EU (overall): ~20% (South ~50–70%, so single digit in the North)
• India: ~8–15%
@Geronimuslll There is no willingness to solve the problem. This and other problems can be solved surprisingly quickly. Sadly things will need to get much worse before there is willingness to do something about it but the solution will be much more drastic.
@OuranosMK Why are you surprised? This is why need to purge entire families, neighbors and communities. These are mot one bad apple problems, the issues are deep and irreparable with the current approaches.
