Hard-science grad stipends started in the Cold War when the US public demand more scientists. Congress used scholarship $ to lure smart folks to do science PhDs. When the Cold War ended, the $📉. We still need a diverse science workforce for the nation’s (🌎) health.⬆️PhD👩🏽🎓💵 1/3
We, the Postdocs, Academic Researchers, Academic Student Employees, & Graduate Student Researchers at UC announce a multi-unit strike starting November 14.
United with @sruuaw & @uaw2865 we will make
@UofCalifornia stop their unlawful conduct & bargain in good faith.
Without living wages being offered, you are narrowing down the student population that can feasibly afford to be a graduate student. How does that help encourage EDI? @ubcequity
This article has some very important real talk all universities should care about. If you value your grad students and their success/mental health-stop setting funding minimums for LESS than minimum wage and stop charging full tuition for research-based degrees
Such helpful resources and support I've personally received from @UBCGradSchool and @UBC include "You could try our campus foodbank" and "can you ask family for money?"
We, the employers of our students should to support this cause. On its part, @ubc must raise its allocation to university graduate student scholarships and support research on campus.
AND thanks to Behavioural Neuro Seminar (BNS) series organizers @m_salehzadeh and @catecholameme for helping put together the seminar (and all their other work organizing the series). It was fun to host, thanks for letting me go rogue! ✌️
Thanks to our amazing speakers for the SciComm seminar last week @VanessaHrvatin, @UBCPsych's @jsnsndr2 and @ZoologyUBC's Sylvia Heredia.

Solid workshop on Imposter syndrome, with a full house of perceived imposters. Goes to show how pervasive this is at all levels of career training 👿 @Neurosci2019
