Excited to try out this pacing guide from “A Novel Approach” by Kate Roberts. What a great way to keep a novel unit both skills-focused & engaging, too—offering learners read-aloud sessions, mini-lessons, and even independent reading opportunities. #bsdcatslearn
Excited to introduce this approach to our learners in the fall; we often discuss/practice taking those one word “topics” and turning them into fully-developed themes, but it’s still a difficult concept for learners. This chart/approach will be incredibly helpful! #bsdcatslearn
I’ve always enjoyed implementing a blend of whole-class novel units & lit circles/reading workshops in my classroom; “A Novel Approach” by Kate Roberts has given me so many new ideas for how I can improve these units & continue to personalize them for each learner. #bsdcatslearn
It’s always so intimidating to try something new in the classroom, which is why I found this quote so encouraging and inspiring! How can we expect students to take responsible risks and grow, if we don’t model that for them? #bsdcatslearn
Love the idea of having students fill out self-reflection charts for the 16 habits of mind! I would love to incorporate this into the weekly reflection emails we send home to parents/guardians. Students rate themselves, reflect on that rating, and set a personal goal for growth.
“We must move toward schools that offer students more choices as they learn how to fully develop their voice, hone their capacities to co-create, and explore the benefits of social construction and self-discovery.” #bsdcatslearn
Two things…
1) Watching students write thank you letters for Teacher Appreciation Week makes my heart so happy.
2) We have SO MANY incredible educators in our district.❤️
HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!🍎📚📝
One of my favorite units of the year—career exploration! Students learn about the 16 Habits of Mind, soft skills, interview skills, etc. They hear from several guest speakers and explore/investigate a variety of career pathways.

It was a perfect day to get outside and practice some descriptive writing! Students are getting ready to start drafting their personal narratives—one of my favorite writing projects of the whole year!
