Bc you can't declare this to be anything other than category 3, you have to demonstrate the viability of halacha in today's world by showing that it works. When you abuse your spouse and withhold a get, you represent Judaism as actually being incompatible w/ contemporary society.
@efrex I'm happy (and bitter enough) to say that the only upside of KAJ's direction over the last 20 years is that they've become irrelevant. At least TIDE is remembered by its relevancy.
Brunson. Hart. Anunoby. The Knicks kept their streak going last night, and #SothebysNewYork has the complete set of game-worn jerseys from the incredible Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Bidding opens 30 June and these could be yours. 🏀

@efrex@YGBechhofer This isn't an insult. The Artscroll bio on Hirsch does a surprisingly good job describing TIDE. They even had the presence of mine to split it into sections. The biographical section, which is hagiography; and the section on TIDE which is pretty decent.
when I see someone doing the moonwalk at a simcha , all I can think about is "how many hours did that shoita spend flailing in his socks in front of a mirror for him to have his little moment?"
@NhavsMaimonides Maimomides didn't believe in a God who created the world with a Will?
By Will I mean to convey an attribute similar to purpose, desire, goal, "wants".
@marktumim@arinohem I think the lifestyles of the two communities have very much indeed merged, resulting in a hybrid lifestyle. Seeing Adirei Hatorah all over my feed today makes this very clear.
@NhavsMaimonides He's quite clear and consistent in all how writings, and is not alone in taking a linguistic approach to similar sounding words in the Hebrew language. You may disagree, but it remains a linguistic approach and not an exclusively romantic one.
@NhavsMaimonides I'd view his dedicated essay on the definition as the authoritative. Although here, too, seems to engage in linguistics to arrive at this definition. Does go on to include 'instruction' in the definition.
I do see that the 1st sentence here contradicts beginning of his essay.
@NhavsMaimonides My English text is directly from Grunfeld, who is an accepted primary source. If he was unfaithful to the degree indicated here, all of Hirsch's English material would be questionable.
If you can share your original German source I'd appreciate the opportunity to investigate.
@NhavsMaimonides Not quite how I understand it.
He arrives at "conception" in the linguistic fashion he is known for, through "instructing" which is your preferred definition.
It appears to me as "romantically linguistic" at best (or worst).
@NhavsMaimonides I wouldn't say I embrace it, but I do think there is real scholarly value in tracing words back to their ancient sources and that this serves Jewish scholarship especially well.
In any case, you've almost entirely arrived at Hirsch's definition. :)
