@mguzm083@TA_ED50 I agree! The hard truth is that these schools claim to be diverse however aren’t allowing all students to have the same opportunities. The white students are the ones getting the resources and support. This applies for student-athletes as well. @abhornUCRedu#ucr50
Racially diverse classrooms are encouraged because it allows success & opportunities for all however, classroom climates aren’t distributing knowledge & equal treatment for students or minority, racial diversity aka nonwhite students.Nonwhite=barrier to succeed!@abhornUCRedu #ucr50
@ImDario27 @TA_ED50 I agree! If the institutions already make profit off of it why wouldn’t at least some amount or ability to profit out of their own self image be allowed? #ucr50@abhornUCRedu
I believe College athletes should be able to profit off of their OWN names, images and liveliness through individual endorsement deals e cause they are personally putting the work, why wouldn’t this be fair? They shouldn’t be restricted opportunities. #ucr50@abhornUCRedu
@emilyVM723@abhornUCRedu I agree with your post! I found that a reason to this is because since men’s sports are so favored, when inclusion makes the men’s go to the side, people start to disagree hence the failure to total success for the reform. @abhornUCRedu#ucr50
Race & diversity is the most noticed inequality in college sports.A huge inequality that is just as important but goes unnoticed is how women are valued in sports. There are many efforts into inclusion of diversity & race but what about the efforts for women?#ucr50@abhornUCRedu
@alpxrzj@abhornUCRedu I think student athletes are segregated from the college climate in general because their priority is focused on the sport they do so they lack time for academics because of their occupation in the sport. This leads to lack of opportunities/inclusion for those of minority. #ucr50
There are many race and ethnicity issues on campus within athletics. Most students who describe campus racial climate as hostile/discriminatory feel less connected to the school. How do you think this may vary if the person is of a minority race AND female? #ucr50@abhornUCRedu
@sduro003@TA_ED50 Athlete microaggressions create common misconceptions & question important issues like validity in athletics! These microaggressions can be seen in intercollegiate athletics and misconstrue important factors of the sport impacting the department wholly !#ucr50@abhornUCRedu
Prejudice towards certain division 1 athletes affect their learning development. Not being as engaged in purposeful activities and enough academic activities can influence not only their performance but their importance/lack of importance for education. #ucr50@abhornUCRedu
@ninatraaann@abhornUCRedu The amount of time that goes toward their sport is a lot! About 40 hours! Being a student athlete requires a lot of commitment so I think it’s unavoidable to burnout, that’s why I think they chose less tedious majors rather trying new things and majors #ucr50@abhornUCRedu
Most athletes pursue majors that requiere less labor in order to focus & maintain eligibility in their sport. Would it be possible that if ensured total eligibility & support, more student athletes would be more motivated to try new academic skills/strategies?#ucr50@abhornUCRedu
@izyyybel01@TA_ED50 I feel that one of many reasonings for this can be that certain departments and staff of the institution carry a more “important” role for many people (many love college sports). And although it isn’t just, there’s always an injustice in between faculty #ucr50@abhornUCRedu
Race has a social significance intercollegiate athleticism. Black individuals attained high regards for education/pursued post secondary education successfully. Why is it that blacks’ point of view shifts once in college as opposed to high school #ucr50@abhornUCRedu
@danieIaruiz@abhornUCRedu Hi! I agree with you when you question how schools will remain compliant with this principle. It sparks discussion because not everyone will identify as male and/or female. Due to this, it creates controversy and additional factors have to be put into consideration. #ucr50
The NCAA takes responsibility for many things a main one being ensuring that the student athletes meet academic standards. Since there are multiple divisions, are there different requirements/limitations depending on whatever division your in? #UCR50#UCR50horn@abhornUCRedu
