@KeriCassidy@CAGPsych@CCSMH@GeriInterestGp@NGIG1415 Trainees are also fortunate to have such great mentors within the field who exemplify not only a palpable passion for the practice of geriatric psychiatry, but also the general wellbeing of all seniors across Canada (and beyond). #CAGPCCSMH2022
#7 top paper @CAGPsych@CCSMH#CAGPCCSMH2022 on an area of interest to me - non-pharm treatment of insomnia. CBT for insomnia may not only be effective for insomnia symptoms, but also possibly depression prevention. Though sadly it’s still a resource that’s hard to access.
.#4 Top Geri psych paper @CAGPsych@CCSMH on Social isolation + its impact on functional outcomes. Those w less support found 2 have worse health+function and at risk of depression. A good reminder to ask about and try 2 increase social supports when needed #CAGPCCSMH2022
One of my favourite annual @CAGPsych@CCSMH sessions happening now: Top 10 papers in Geri psych. Number 2 is on the relevant and complex issue of behavioural variant of Alzheimer’s Disease. #cagpccsmh2022
Quote from advisory group member in talk by Natasha Jacobs @AlzCanada on Canadian Charter of Rights 4 People w Dementia - “I want to have the privilege of choosing what my life is going to be, not what someone has pre-destined for me” - Important for all to support #cagpccsmh2022

How can we effectively prevent falls in older adults?
A study by Dautzenburg et al. found the single intervention most strongly associated with reduced rate of falls is - unsurprisingly - EXERCISE!
