The most honest thing ever said about the American War was said by a Vietnamese colonel to an American colonel after the war ended.

The American colonel, Harry Summers, told his Vietnamese counterpart:

"You know, you never defeated us on the battlefield."

The Vietnamese colonel, Nguyễn Đôn Tự, thought about it and replied:

"That may be so. But it is also irrelevant."

That exchange contains the entire war.

The Americans won battles. They won firefights. They had superior firepower in almost every conventional engagement.

By their own metrics, body counts, kill ratios, territory controlled, they were often "winning."

And they lost the war.

Because wars are not won by body counts.

Wars are not won by kill ratios.

Wars are not won by the number of bombs dropped or the cost of the weapons deployed or the technological sophistication of the killing machinery.

Wars, especially wars of occupation, wars of colonial imposition, wars fought against people defending their own land, are won by will.

And on the question of will, there was never a contest.

The Vietnamese people had been resisting foreign occupation for two thousand years before America arrived.

Fighting was not a policy position. It was a cultural inheritance. A collective understanding of who they were and what they would do when someone came to tell them how to live.

America arrived with the most powerful military in human history and a firm belief that sufficient firepower could substitute for legitimacy.

It cannot. It never could. It never will.

Irrelevant. That one word, from a Vietnamese colonel to his American counterpart, is the entire lesson.

"हम इतिहास को अपनी आंखों के सामने घटते हुए देख रहे हैं। सबकी उम्मीदों के ख़िलाफ़, ईरान इस वक़्त अमेरिकी ठिकानों को इतनी गहरा�� और इतने निर्णायक तरीक़े से तबाह कर रहा है कि दुनिया अभी उसे समझने के लिए तैयार ही नहीं है।

सिर्फ़ चार दिनों में ईरान ने इस पूरे इलाक़े में अपनी फ़ौजी पकड़ का दायरा बढ़ा लिया है। ईरान ने दुनिया के सबसे क़ीमती और सबसे महंगे फ़ौजी ठिकानों, साधनों और उपकरणों को निशाना बनाकर तबाह कर दिया है। बहरीन, कुवैत, क़तर और सऊदी अरब में मौजूद अमेरिकी ठिकाने दुनिया के सबसे बड़े सैन्य अड्डों में गिने जाते है��। इन्हें बनाने में कई दशकों में खरबों डॉलर खर्च हुए हैं। यानी तीस साल से ज़्यादा के सैन्य ख़र्च का बड़ा हिस्सा अब धुएं में उड़ता हुआ दिखाई दे रहा है।

हम देख रहे हैं कि करोड़ों डॉलर की क़ीमत वाले रडार एक ही पल में नष्ट हो रहे हैं। पूरी की पूरी सैन्य छावनियां खाली कर दी गयी हैं, कुछ जला दी गयी हैं और कई पूरी तरह तबाह हो चुक��� हैं। मेरे ज्ञान के मुताबिक़, अमेरिका को अपने पूरे इतिहास में ऐसी तबाही कभी नहीं झेलनी पड़ी, शायद पर्ल हार्बर के हमले को छोड़ दें, मगर वह भी एक ही हमला था।

किसी भी सामान्य युद्ध में किसी दुश्मन ने अमेरिकी सेना के साथ वह नहीं किया जो ईरान इस समय कर रहा है। यह बात यक़ीन से परे लगती है। हालात इतने ख़राब हैं कि इस युद्ध से जुड़ी नयी जानकारी लगभग पूरी तरह सेंसरशिप के पीछे छिपा दी गयी है। आपने ग़ौर कि���ा होगा कि हर दिन हमें कम से कम जानकारी दिखायी जा रही है।

पैंतीस साल पहले पहले इराक़ युद्ध के दौरान हमें लगातार वीडियो फुटेज दिखाये जाते थे। उस समय ‘स्मार्ट बम’ और कैमरे नयी चीज़ थे, फिर भी हर रात युद्ध के दृश्य टीवी पर दिखते थे। आज हालात यह हैं कि हमें लगभग कोई वीडियो दिखाई ही नहीं देता।

ज़रा समझिए। दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी सैन्य ताक़त, जिस��ी वायु शक्ति भी दुनिया में सबसे बड़ी मानी जाती है, चार दिनों से हमले की स्थिति में है। दावा किया जा रहा है कि वह ईरानी रक्षा पंक्तियों को तोड़ रही है, लेकिन हमें कहीं भी ईरान के आसमान पर अमेरिकी वर्चस्व का कोई सबूत नहीं दिखता। तेहरान या ईरान के किसी भी हिस्से के ऊपर उड़ते अमेरिकी विमानों की फुटेज कहां है?

अमेरिकी सैनिक ईरान की ज़मीन पर कदम रखने का ख़्वाब भी नहीं देख सकते। इस युद्ध की बेबसी का अ���दाज़ा इस बात से लगाइए कि चौथे ही दिन ट्रंप प्रशासन की ओर से अजीबोग़रीब सुझाव सामने आने लगे हैं। वे कह रहे हैं कि फ़ारस की खाड़ी से निकलने वाले तेल के जहाज़ों को सैन्य सुरक्षा दी जाए। आप सोच भी क्या रहे हैं? आप अमेरिकी जहाज़ों को हज़ारों ईरानी मिसाइलों की मारक सीमा में भेजना चाहते हैं? इस वक़्त कोई भी जहाज़ हॉर्मुज़ के जलडमरूमध्य से सुरक्षित नहीं गुजर सकता।

ईरान ने दशकों तक इसकी तैयारी की है। अब कुछ लोग यह बात कर रहे हैं कि कुर्द मिलिशिया को हथियार देकर ईरान पर हमला कराया जाए। यह कैसी बात है? क्या आपने ईरान का नक़्शा देखा है? लगता है ट्रंप प्रशासन ने कभी ईरान का नक़्शा देखा ही नहीं। आपको पता है वह कितना विशाल देश है? आप कहते हैं ईरान पर हमला कर दो। क्या दस हज़ार लड़ाकों की मिलिशिया ईरान पर क़ब्ज़ा कर लेगी? पचास हज़ार? या एक लाख? ईरान उन्हें निग�� जाएगा।

अमेरिका और इस्राइल यह युद्ध पहले ही हार चुके हैं। वे बम गिराकर लाखों आम लोगों को मार सकते हैं, इमारतों को उड़ा सकते हैं, लेकिन वे यह युद्ध नहीं जीतेंगे। ईरान का सैन्य ढांचा और हथियार पूरे देश में ज़मीन के बहुत गहरे नीचे बने हुए हैं। अमेरिकियों के लिए, और निश्चित ही इस्राइलियों के लिए, वहां तक पहुंचना लगभग नामुमकिन है।

उन्होंने ऐसा सिलसिला शुरू कर दिया है जिसे वे ख़त्म करने की ताक़त ��हीं रखते। जब यह सब ख़त्म होगा, तो अमेरिका फिर कभी पश्चिमी एशिया में उसी तरह वापस नहीं आ पाएगा। मध्य पूर्व में अमेरिकी मौजूदगी नहीं बचेगी। मैं यह बात पूरे यक़ीन के साथ कह रहा हूं।"

In the heart of Chennai, a temple is keeping a decades-old promise—serving Iftar as a gesture of unity and love.

For over 40 years, the Sufidar Temple has been preparing and serving Iftar meals to Muslim brothers and sisters during Ramadan, proving that compassion knows no religion.

This beautiful tradition was started by Dada Ratanchand, a Hindu refugee from Sindh, who sought refuge in Chennai during Partition.

Today, Hindu and Muslim volunteers come together every morning at 7:30 AM to cook meals for around 1,200 people. The menu features fried rice, biryani, vegetable pickles, saffron milk, and fruits.

By 5:30 PM, these meals are transported to the historic Wallajah Masjid, where volunteers, respectfully donning traditional Muslim caps, serve the fasting individuals.

In a world often divided, this Chennai temple stands as a shining example of unity, reminding us that love, kindness, and tradition can bring communities together.

Let’s celebrate this incredible story of compassion, faith, and togetherness!
