Employment opportunities in Exploration and Discovery

The newly launched Rising Star Human Journey Project based in South Africa seeks to fill administrative, academic, technical and support positions for its inaugural year of work. The project is supported by the National Geographic Society and the Lee R Berger Foundation for Exploration. The project seeks explorer minded, dynamic, qualified candidates who wish to help us fulfill the mission of the Society to illuminate and protect the wonder of our world, specifically as it relates to understanding the origins of humankind. Under the Direction of National Geographic Explorer in Residence Prof Lee Berger, the project seeks qualified candidates for a number of positions, to begin work as early as April 2023. Appointments, however, will be filled on an ongoing basis as suitable candidates are identified. The project is involved with, and planning, a wide range of scientific activities including exploration above and below ground, excavations at well-known fossil bearing sites such as the Rising Star Cave and the Malapa site in the Cradle of Humankind, studies of modern animals and their behaviours, modern and ancient habitats, molecular biology, and geology, as well as conducting exploratory expeditions throughout the African sub-continent. The project is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, but successful applicants will join a large, diverse, global team of scientists and explorers and work may take one to exotic locations across the planet.
Applications should include three letters of recommendation or reference; copies of valid drivers licenses and passports or other documents as stipulated in the job advertisements. Certified copies of relevant certifications, degrees etc. must be provided. The application should include a cover letter indicating why the applicant feels they are qualified/suitable for the position(s) applied for.
