These injustices have evolved over generations & continue to have far-reaching impacts on our communities. NM families shouldn’t have to wait any longer for the state to fulfill its promise & obligation of ensuring a quality education for all. #EducationEquity#nmleg#nmpol
@p4p_cssw This was my experience. After a series of unpaid internships, I undervalued my worth as an employee and it took several years for me to feel that I deserved fair pay.
@payourinterns I agree. Prestige is used to justify exploitation. Some of that is being bought into less but the norm of this practice is used to justify its continuation.
@payourinterns Hope so. But I didn't learn my worth as an employee until I gained work experience and recognition of my skills over time. It's not on those coming into the system to transform it. They need help from those who have already gone through it & know their work isn't worth $0.

RIP Rudolfo Anaya (1937-2020), known as the "godfather" of Chicanx Literature and a beautiful storyteller. His remarkable impact on New Mexico, the literary world, and world itself, will carry his legacy on indefinitely.
This is striking: "On the most recent New York Times list of best-selling nonfiction in e-books and print, five of the Top 15 titles address racism. . .The week before, there were none."

Here are some works on Afrodescendientes in Mexico. This is a paltry display of the vast and growing literature on this subject in Spanish. I have a few books being borrowed, surely, but I could also do better. #LasVidasNegrasImportan#BlackLivesMattters
“Why, why, why? you might ask, in front of a Harrison sculpture; eventually your own questioning may turn into a kind of music—the music of thinking—playing alongside hers.” https://t.co/s1Zf8xSLXL
“This year I read certain books to stay tethered to the world, but I also devoted myself with greater intensity to books I read only for the sustenance of my inner life.” Anita Felicelli’s 2019 reading included Yoko Ogawa, Zadie Smith, Mimi Lok, and more.

A #DailyNews highlight: “What artists can do is bring stories to the table that are unshakably true—the sort of stories that, once you’ve heard them, won’t let you return to what you thought before." —@Lin_Manuel via @TheAtlantic. Your latest arts roundup: https://t.co/YCCvkst3by
