the pigeon doesn’t understand your disdain for it; it coos for you anyway. the tree does not know you own an axe for it; its leaves sway in the sun anyway. the starving cat eats the poison you put out. it doesn’t know how not to trust. the earth forgives you, in spite of yourself
Young people are always told what not to do. But what should you do?
Did you know that most public libraries have a Nintendo Switch to use? That parks show free movies at night? That there's a map of pickup basketball games?
https://t.co/Nb8rOAGO4T is a map of free and affordable things to do this summer that we made just for you.
Because public programs mean nothing if you don't know how to access them.
There is this guy on youtube name GAKHED who films his cats with a 1999 camcorder and in this time of brainrot and toxic internet it's the most calming and soothing thing i've seen.
This is what spring felt like as a kid. ❤️
Farmers have figured out that the cheapest pesticide is a strip of flowers.
When you plant wildflowers through a crop field, not just around the edge but in strips running through the middle, you get ladybugs, lacewings, hoverflies, and parasitic wasps living in the field instead of visiting it.
They eat the aphids, the caterpillars, and the mites for free, all summer long.
In controlled trials, fields with tailored flower strips had leaf-beetle numbers 40 to 50% lower and crop damage cut by around 60%, enough to drop below the threshold where spraying was even considered worth it.
The flowers attract a standing army to our fields.
We spent decades engineering chemicals to kill the insects eating the crop, when the insects that eat those insects would have worked for the price of seed.
It makes me sad that he’s been ringing the alarm of climate disaster for decades and everyone is just like ‘aw what a sweet old national treasure’ and ignoring him
Humanity thrived for thousands of years without AI. We can live without it. What we cannot live without is fresh water, farmers, agriculture, and land.
Stop supporting AI. It’s destroying our planet.
I still don’t understand how we were given rivers, fruit, sunlight, trees, and the sea… and some people looked at all that and said, “nah, let’s choose debt, stress, poverty, concrete buildings, and war instead.”
Netanyahu is the extremist who killed 75,000 in Gaza.
The extremist who said invading Iraq would create "enormous positive reverberations."
The extremist who has pushed U.S. presidents to go to war with Iran for decades.
Finally, he found a President who said yes.
Tragic.
Today’s military strikes on Iran — carried out by the United States and Israel — mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war. Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace.
I am focused on making sure that every New Yorker is safe. I have been in contact with our Police Commissioner and emergency management officials. We are taking proactive steps, including increasing coordination across agencies and enhancing patrols of sensitive locations out of an abundance of caution.
Additionally, I want to speak directly to Iranian New Yorkers: you are part of the fabric of this city — you are our neighbors, small business owners, students, artists, workers, and community leaders. You will be safe here.
If you believe this israeli-led assault is about freeing the Iranian people, youre unbelievably stupid, their goal is expansionism, and it will backfire on everyone
regimes are overthrown by their own people, not by foreign genocidal powers acting in their own interests
we’re always told there’s no money for libraries, for healthcare, for universities, for high speed rail, for sewer upgrades, and yet there’s always infinite money for war
