For five years, the AWF–Wall Youth Leadership Program has equipped young African leaders with the skills, networks, and confidence to influence policy, lead on the ground, and drive African-led conservation solutions.

The 2026 Call for Applications is now open, with two fellowship tracks designed for emerging leaders ready to step into impact.

1) AWF–Wall Policy Fellowship, delivered in partnership with the @UNEP, for young professionals ready to influence global environmental governance and elevate Africa’s priorities in international decision-making spaces.

2) AWF–Wall Leadership & Management Fellowship for conservation practitioners already delivering impact on the ground and seeking to sharpen leadership, strengthen teams, and tackle complex conservation challenges.

The @UNFCCC Climate Change #COP29Baku started on a high note, with delegates reiterating the urgency to act and emphasizing that the effects of #ClimateChange are not a thing of the future; they are being felt in the present across the world, from the floods, fires and other catastrophes that are being felt by millions. High on the agenda of this #COP29Azerbaijan is the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) for #climatefinance.

The @AWF_Official  delegation is on-site to engage with like-minded governments and organizations to remind delegates that Africa, its people, and its biodiversity are a key part of the Solution.

Today, we convened a side event attended by young delegates as well as representatives of the East African Community and the Africa Group of Negotiators on Biodiversity to reflect on how #African youth are already innovating across strategic sectors to address the #climatecrisis and share some of the challenges they face and opportunities they see for scaling up their efforts.

It was clear from the event that the climate crisis is multifaceted, and hence, the solutions are equally many at various levels.

Now, more than ever, it’s crucial to rally behind initiatives that foster resilient ecosystems and support those at the forefront of #climateinnovation.

COP29 Presidency Finance Team Lead Elmaddin Mehdiyev addressed the opening plenary of the Climate Change Expert Group (CCXG) Global Forum on the Environment and Climate Change. The Global Forum, jointly organised by the OECD and the IEA, aims to enhance understanding among a wide range of countries on key issues relevant to the climate negotiations and implementation of the Paris Agreement. E.Mehdiyev highlighted the Incoming Presidency's priorities and vision for delivering successful outcomes in #COP29, and to achieve goals of the Paris Agreement.

Today, @AWF_Official, in collaboration with @UNEP_Africa, ushered in the 3rd Cohort of the Charles R. Wall Young African Policy Fellows Program with a week-long workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together 15 fellows from 13 African countries–with a representation of all the regions in the continent.

The program seeks to establish a pool of young professionals with sufficient knowledge and negotiation skills on international environmental governance who are capable of effectively contributing to policy formulation, negotiation, and review processes at country, regional, and international levels.

The workshop kicked off with a dialogue on "Leadership in Policy," featuring insights from AWF's senior leadership @Fred_K_Kumah and @Nancy_Githaiga, who highlighted the importance of developing necessary skills, filling knowledge gaps, and nurturing self-leadership to drive change in policy.#ChuckWallPolicyFellows2024
