It used to be that 22% of college students majored in education.
CURRENT numbers are < 4%! 😮
Instead of figuring out why, states and districts are lowering the requirements for becoming a teacher. Then some experts will ‘wonder’ why test scores have been declining. 🙄😕😡
There’s something people are missing about what happened in Tennessee.
This was personal.
Rep. Justin Jones didn’t only protest for stronger gun safety. He was the activist who played a role in the bust of Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest being taken down from
the Tennessee Capitol.
In February 2019, Rep. Jones, then an unelected activist, staged a protest at the Tennessee state Capitol where he demanded the removal of a the former Ku Klux Klan leader before being arrested.
The statue was finally removed in 2021. However, it seems some relics of the past remain.
“We don’t have to see it as a choice between play or academics, play should be academics for preschoolers.”
A beautiful, important look at the critical role of play in feeding young children's brains—and spirits.

And I would add that they should care if Kindergartners are being allowed to play, so that they can learn to get along and solve problems! It infuriates me that they are expected to be reading, test taking robots as littles that have only been on this earth for 5 years!
No one should care how a kindergartener compares on a standardized test with kindergarteners around the country. They should care if the kindergartener feels cared for, valued, and actually enjoys coming to school to learn. Its Kindergarten!
One of the most significant things we could do to change education for the better would be to really acknowledge difference. We could simply accept that not all five year olds are ready to read, and not all 16 year olds are ready to do high stakes exams. 1/
Imagine… I feel this as a mom who has seen this in my own children and as a teacher who has watched for 30 years as education has completely changed into a money making test machine that doesn’t care about the well being of teachers or students.
Imagine a world where we said, what’s going on with the children? So many of them are angry and distressed after school. So many of them are shut in their bedrooms. So many of them are anxious and unhappy. So many of them disillusioned at 15. 1;
There will never be a good excuse as to why nothing can be done to help w/ raising the National Funding for #ChildhoodCancer These Children go thru the unimaginable suffering & STILL our Government believes that they’re ONLY worth 4%.
