@everytstudies It’s also so flattening to say they do these things to signal conspicuous exemption from labor. Higher classes value hard work and mastery as much, if not more, than lower classes. Which class is more likely to use a vacation to watch hours of reality tv?
@levon_whiteguy i'm sure you've done research on this but in case this helps, here's some stuff re: psychedelics and cluster headaches:

@haslametrics Is there a way to run the numbers for best 3- or 4- game stretches by game performance score as far as the numbers go back? Have to think this is likely the best 3-/4-game performance in history
If you saw Liverpool 1-0 West Ham, then clicked through to see them only having 5 shots, would that not trigger alarm bells? Anecdotally that level of chance creation seems almost impossibly low for a top-4-level PL team
There’s a mischaracterisation of opposition quality in international football. Our models rated Serbia comparable to mid-table PL teams - e.g. West Ham or Brighton. Not unusual for a top 4 PL-quality team (as England are) to suffer for periods against that level of opposition.
@FootballCliches@D_C_W is it too obvious to bring up “this is what VAR has taken from us”?
because, well, at the risk of being trite and boring, this is what VAR has taken from us
@oilysailor is Mainoo actually going to play? like, he’s a nice story and all, but United were ~the 15th-best team in the league by xG with him out there, nowhere good enough for this England team yet
@ne0scythian Hakeem, Shaq #1? Depends on how you value peak vs how much he actually played in the decade. David Robinson probably rounds out the top 3, not sure if I’m missing anyone
@scottjwillis Hes just not good imo. As prospect could make up for clumsy footwork/touch and lack of feel with explosive pace + good workrate. He’s maintained all of the former with none of the latter. City game instructive - amazing goal but — by far — worst player on pitch otherwise
@DerekBodnerNBA .1% illustrates the concept but might even be optimistic -- I think the outcome was deterministic given betting patterns.
reminds me of the Dortmund share shorting/bus bombing; more people need to read Matt Levine before planning their illicit trading actions
@KJ_McFlannels@DerekBodnerNBA an 80k (!!) parlay on a two-way player who then goes out after three minutes with a non-injury.
I keep going back to that amount -- the books are literally never paying that bet out, which means hopeless naivete, which means the mass of the iceberg might be quite large
