@seemerun___ @shroomychrist I think she grew up extremely money-conscious and Harvey's unfortunate employment history certainly didn't help matters. She likely silently took on a heavier burden than necessary because she felt that she had to.

@seemerun___ @shroomychrist I agree with you to the extent that she had an unrealistic idea of good parenting. “He’ll never struggle like we did” makes me lean away from the idea she grew up spoiled though.

@shroomychrist reading of everything Harvey says, and it’s heartbreaking because from what we can tell, she does the same thing with Toby.

Harvey said it most aptly:

“She never really heard him, just what she thought he meant.

And that’s the tragedy.”

@shroomychrist Harvey was so patient and gentle toward Eun-mi it shattered my heart and melted the shards.
It pulled me in with the same convincing realism as before. And the way he speaks about Eun-mi to the player… I have so many feelings about that. He’s so soft.

@shroomychrist about raising Toby. She believes mistakes constitute a judgment of her character, so any criticism registers as a personal attack. “Are you trying to say you’re better at this or something?”

Her insecurities and her stressors are causing her to apply the most bad-faith possible

@shroomychrist They both care for Toby but they’re coming from such starkly different directions that they ended up hurting one another. And it certainly doesn’t help that Eun-mi clearly hasn’t made it a priority to examine herself and take accountability for how she handles her insecurity

@manic_beetle Thanks for articulating this, man. I feel quite similarly. People who think Harvey was being an asshole or Eun-mi was written horribly I think aren’t quite giving the writing a chance. I personally found the dynamic very realistic, and it resonated with me to the point of tears.

@bren_synth For sure! It resonated with me with how true-to-life it was. I could see where each side was coming from without Eun-mi being justified.

It’s also just a heavy experience emotionally to see some of your parents AND some of yourself in these characters. Thank YOU for this art.

As well as just the gentle, earnest way Harvey speaks to Eun-mi.

Her actions are still completely reprehensible.

Their conversation resonated with me a little too much and now my heart is both full and shattered.
