“China built nearly 60 nuclear reactors in the last 30 years. America built 3.”
At Gigawatt Summit 2026, @GovCox and @NRCgov Chairman Ho K. Nieh discuss America’s nuclear comeback, AI-driven electricity demand, licensing reform, national security, and what it will take for the United States to build again.
Watch if you want to understand where American nuclear is headed next.
🎤 How is the NRC putting the ADVANCE Act and Executive Order 14300 into action? Hear directly from NRC Chairman Ho K. Nieh and @NENSCoalition Co-Chair Daniel Poneman in the latest episode of Atomically Speaking.

“Nuclear is going to be part of the next 250 years for America,” Chairman Nieh said. “And what I’d like to let (others) know is that there is a new NRC. We are not going to be an impediment to the deployment of nuclear power in the United States." https://t.co/MFA8zeTO8P
The Economist on the U.S. economy’s consistent growth outperformance relative to other advanced countries:
“America’s outperformance began decades ago, but in the 2020s it has become vast. And it is likely to last. The latest IMF forecasts show American growth besting the rest all the way to 2030 and beyond….
Many of America’s advantages are hard to emulate. The country’s continental scale, single language, natural-resource wealth and the fiscal space that comes from issuing the world’s safe asset give it a unique economic advantage over Europe…
But America also shows just how much other rich countries are failing to live up to their economic potential.”

Last year, President Trump issued four historic executive orders to revitalize the U.S. nuclear energy industry.
Since then, we’ve seen an unprecedented transformation in the nation’s approach to delivering more nuclear power.
Our Chairman joined @GovCox at the Operation Gigawatt Summit to discuss the future of nuclear energy. He discussed NRC efforts to modernize licensing frameworks across the nuclear life cycle to accelerate safe deployment of nuclear technologies to support America’s energy needs.
Six years to build the transcontinental railroad.
14 years to get a transmission line across Utah.
We’ve got to get back to building big things. “Ambition paired with virtue” is what defined America and it can again.
Great start to the Operation Gigawatt Summit hosted by @GovCox and powered by @abundanceinst
China: 60 reactors in 30 years.
US: 3.
That’s not just a gap; that’s a strategic disadvantage.

A new NRC has emerged that enables and accelerates the safe and secure deployment of nuclear technologies. Today, our Commission and EDO recognized efforts in driving change under EO 14300, including multiple historic licensing actions and pressing forward on new rules.
New NRC (& new logo!): “We are designing these rules to accelerate safe deployment and expansion of nuclear technologies. This is how the @NRCgov supports America's energy security and global nuclear energy leadership.” —Chairman Nieh
Scoop: Amazon-backed reactor startup X-energy just won NRC approval of the environmental review for its debut plant in Texas.
It's historic, from an environmental permitting perspective. This is the first time the agency has given a project the green light after a months-long environmental assessment rather than years-long environmental impact statement.
I'll put a link to my @CanaryMediaInc story in the comments.
Executive Order 14300 was the catalyst. In 12 months, we have delivered an unprecedented suite of new rules around the entire nuclear lifecycle. These rules will accelerate safe deployment and expansion of nuclear technologies.
💡 We’re making nuclear energy more efficient. We recently approved topical reports that can extend refueling cycles, which = less new fuel needed & less spent fuel generated. Foundation laid for future uprates & more power to the grid. https://t.co/Wul3YhOj2H
Listen to our Chairman Ho Nieh speak about the NRC's priorities to meet the moment and enable safe, efficient and timely regulatory decisions at today's hearing with the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
“Innovators are coming to the market with new designs, so we are not going to be an impediment to innovation,” Nieh told reporters during a recent roundtable. “We’re trying to adapt our frameworks as the energy landscape adapts.” https://t.co/8IVZSXOeHf
Justice has been served. From the beginning, this was the most obvious violation of Virginia’s Constitution. Abigail Spanberger and Democrats in Richmond knowingly violated our constitution to disenfranchise millions of Virginians.
The Constitution prevailed, and Virginians will never forget this unlawful attempt to rob them of their voice in Congress.
NRC has accepted for review Radiant's application for its micro-reactor fabrication facility. NRC plans to take eight months to perform the review. That's ~55% faster than what such a review used to take. Article link in reply.
