How about start to learn Arabic instead of just reading the translation of our religious text?

The word عَقْل (‘Aql), Ayn Qaf Laam most of us understand it with the translation that gave the meaning to mind or intellect. But actually it doesn't really mean that.

The root verb of ‘aql literally means "to restrain, to restrict, to tie something or to bind together." One example is from a hadith saying:

اعْقِلْهَا وَتَوَكَّلْ

“Trust Allah, and tie the camel” [al-Tirmidzi 2517]. This hadith use the same verb for "tie".

Arabs, especially male had a thing on their head with the black round thing, that's called egal or in standard Arabic, iqal. And this is a rope that you use to tie the camel down so it doesn't wander off. Same word as ‘aql. So your ‘aql is not really what makes you clever or intelligent in the first place.

‘Aql is considered a noun, representing the entity that connects and bind things together. It absorbs knowledge, then establishes connections and draws conclusions from that knowledge with internal consistency. In simpler word, ‘aql is actually something that holds you back, ties you down from something that would have destroyed you or corrupted you. So without your aql, without using your mind, you will be lost.

Imagine this situation,

You are walking towards a middle of the road during peak hours or danger, it is your ‘aql that will make you STOP because it understand the danger incoming.

So, to understand the hadith of Rasulullah SAW said that women have deficiency in ‘aql should not be understood simply as deficiency in intelligence or intellect. And this does not mean that women are inferior to men in everything or men are better than them in everything or Islam did not recognize their intellect and mental capabilities. You'll be surprised on the actual understanding of the hadith.

Learn Arabic, then you'll gain access to the Shariah texts in Arabic so you can read what the scholars commented and understood.
