Connected rates of change with Y13.
I made these examples up fairly quickly because I wanted them to sketch the graphs, then asked them to choose some sensible values (the red numbers) and we calculated the rates. It turned out to be a really nice progression of questions.

Doesn't look like much but had so many good talking points from y7 today with the activity rearrange 1-2+3-4+5 so that its value doesn't change! 'Additive inverse' was the phrase of the day! It means now I can ban subtraction for a week 😈🤣

@sonukg4india Blue and yellow area:red is 4:1 so s.f is 2:1, red triangle to whole triangle 3:1 so area of large triangle is 12*3²=108. Square is 108-60=48

Really pushed the year 7's today applying variation theory to some linear graphs/equations! Finding the equation of a line from a table! Lots of eureka moments and mathematical discussion! #MathsEducation #MTBoS #mathschat #iteachmaths

Students often struggle with finding gradients when we differ the scales for each axes! This year I preempted this with this great rich task from @NCETM, it generated some great discussion about what it means to be 'on' each of the axes! 👌🏻 Go have a look! #MathsEducation
