IAF and HAL
The key primary consumer and the prominent supplier.
Almost: monopsony and monopoly.
Indian Air Force (IAF) officers headed Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in an unbroken chain from 1958 until 1997.
MoD decided to change this arrangement.
Now/ in 2026.
IAF doesnt find a role in ANY leadership role- not even in the board. There is no Indian Air Force seat on the current HAL board.
Since the GoI owns nearly 72% of HAL- it has two seats on the board.
The two government-nominee directors are:
- Dr. Rajalakshmi Menon, a DRDO scientist
- Manisha Chandra, an IAS officer
Rest of them are from HAL.
Watched a very insightful discussion on Autocar between Hormazd Sorabjee Sir, Peter Gilbert, and Leandro (Brazilian guests and senior representatives from Infineum) on Ethanol blended fuel.
Here is what I learned...
✅ They took ethanol samples from the market and audited them for quality.
✅ Initially, problems with rubber parts, O-rings, and injectors were seen with E85.
✅ In India, if an E10 car is run on E20 for a long time, it may show a check-engine light when the engine fails to calibrate with E20 fuel. This varies from brand to brand and car to car.
✅ To ensure good-quality ethanol-blended fuel, tanks at fuel pumps must be kept super clean to avoid biodegradation.
✅ Brazil collects 5,000 samples per month to check for chlorine contamination in fuel and ensure compliance with standards.
✅ The chlorine limit in India is 3 ppm, while Brazil has a limit of 1 ppm.
✅ A poor ethanol-production process can also cause contamination.
✅ Brazil has limits for iron and sodium, but Indian ethanol-production specifications do not.
✅ Oil companies in Brazil check ethanol to audit its quality and ensure that the standards laid down by the National Petroleum Agency are maintained.
✅ Fuel sellers conduct density checks at the pump level to ensure there is no adulteration in Brazil.
✅ Chlorine comes from the ethanol-production process and should be controlled within prescribed limits to prevent issues in cars.
✅ If specifications are followed, injectors, metal parts, and fuel pumps should not face any issues. Otherwise, contamination may cause crystals to form and clog the fuel injectors.
Opinion: There seems to be a HUGE difference between the quality of fuel provided in Brazil and India because of differences in overall checks, ppm limits, and iron and sodium level checks. Brazil mastered it gradually, but we implemented it in a hurried manner. Hopefully, we will match their quality standards.
Instead of giving subsidy benefit to sugar mill owners, spend these thousands of crores in logistics for separate dispensers for e10 and e20 and fix this clownery for once and all.
E20 fiasco & reckless attitude of Gadkari and Puri in recent interviews is strongly turning off even the hardcore BJP Supporters. Middle class is literally turning against. This needs to be fixed else it might cast a very heavy shadow in UP2027 elections

As a father this post by CJP supporter pains me the most. Why are protestors even allowed to bring in kids, when you know that such protests posses a safety risk. What has NEET got to do with such a small innocent kid?
There are so many things that are wrong with the Modi Govt.
But then there wasn't one thing that was right with the UPA, or the Mamta Govt in Bengal, or the AAP Govt in Punjab, and so on...
Listen to the great nation builder Lee Kuan Yew. Don't let communists & anarchists shake political confidence, create protests & riots, and turn our companies & capitalists' names into dirty words. Or we will fail with our country and suffer. India already suffered for 50 years.
India's hydrogen train - why the breakthrough is important and how India is experimenting with the technology at consumer scale and not just running a "toy train".
"168 ka petrol available hai, toh bharo na."
The sheer arrogance in this statement by Nitin Gadkari sums up the government's stance on the fuel crisis.
Force consumers into buying cheaper-to-produce E20 ethanol blends at premium prices, suffer a massive drop in vehicle mileage, and if they complain about engine damage, tell them to track down ₹168/liter pure petrol instead.
We are paying record-high taxes only to be gaslit by the people we elected. The middle class isn't a bottomless ATM for policy experiments.
Bought this Mahindra petrol SUV in Sept 2024 after replacing my BS4 diesel in NCR. Surprised to find it’s only E10 compliant despite being manufactured in May 2024. With E20 fuel rollout, can @MahindraRise explain why a 2024 vehicle isn’t E20 compliant? @nitin_gadkari@PMOIndia
@skanishk09@volklub Forget villages electricity grids even in Tier 1 cities are not ready to take up tha kind of load. Abhi bhi ek ghar mein 2 AC extra chal jayein toh transformer udd jata hai, with existing infra extra EV load se toh bata nahi kya hi bawaal machega
Put Flex Fuel Cars in 5% GST slab like EVs, give them points benefits in CAFE
Make e10 as base petrol and e85 for flex fuel cars. Target 5% marketshare
Farmers and Sugar Mill owners, both happy. That’s the only way out now.
@volklub Bhaaji blueprint toh E20 ka bhi 2030 tak ka tha, govt randomly shifted to 2025. Blueprint mil bhi gaya toh kya hi kar lenge if nobody honors that at the end of the day. Honest tax payer who is earning decent and wants to give better life to their kids is being royally screwed
