DP World Tour players are starting to show their frustrations publicly and it’s not hard to see why, but instead of arguing with each other, they should be directing this energy towards the failings of the leadership.

Before LIV started, members were NOT told what punishment would be for playing without a release, Ryder Cup players were NOT told they’d be banned from being captains and Keith Pelley literally told guys he would “do the same in their shoes”. Members have also never usually needed to ask for a release and PGA Tour players don’t do it. For example, the Ryder Cup captain and vice captain skipped a big DP World Tour event this week, with many potential team members playing, to play a doubles competition in the US. So for management to then wait 2 weeks after the first LIV event to drop a fine that’s nearly 10x the highest ever applied and effectively end Ryder Cup legends careers, it’s not hard to see why they’re upset and they have every right to be.

I’d also like to point out that there has still not been any indication of what the new punishments will be for LIV players who played in Adelaide after the DP World Tour won the arbitration, despite management having months to plan for this situation.

A lot of people are scared to speak out but it’s time to call it how it is. The DP World Tour under Keith Pelley is a puppet to Ponte Vedra and there is no benefit to the ‘strategic alliance’ other than financial. Keith Pelley was given the opportunity to work with LIV, who would have also invested millions into the tour and taken it forward, but the decision was made at board level (that includes Jay Monahan) without consulting members.

Keith Pelley has repeatedly told members over the last year that his vision for the European Tour is to make it a “pathway to the PGA Tour” and is doing everything possible to make it a feeder, even though it is greatly devaluing the product.

If this trend continues, the once great European Tour won’t just be a pathway, it will be relegated to the 5th tour in the world. Things need to change immediately and members need to start addressing the real problem head on.
