As we enter the abyss, I'm voting with my feet - well fingers to be truthful. You can now catch me on @andrewlipczynski.bsky.social. Bye X and thanks for all the phish ๐.
Nature at risk โ ๏ธ UK Government promised to protect nature. But itโs breaking that promise. Demand they scrap the part of the new Planning and Infrastructure Bill which threatens important wildlife protections. Take action ๐ https://t.co/QgqrOMwXdt
@PaulSelby18@Mariposa_Nature@dunnjons Good luck Paul. After searching all morning in the Laurisilva without as much as a glimpse, we decided to have a rest and a snack in cafe at Ribeiro Frio when this happened...
Extremely proud to have been a part of the brilliant Observatory at Sandwich Bay for three years. A truly excellent experience with so much going on and so much wildlife. Thanks to all the local birders and volunteers who I met along the way. Looking forward to next year!
Butterflies extinct in NL: Scarce Heath (zilverstreephooibeestje, Coenonympha hero). Always had a very restricted distribution in NL, there is no habitat anymore. Doing bad in most in W Europe.
A pair of Whooper Swans on Minnis Flash, RSPB Worth Marshes this am. First alerted by the evocative sound of subdued distant bugling, then chased off by a resident Mute returning later. A scarce passage migrant through & rare winter visitor to @Sandwichbirdobs recording area.
What's happening @savebutterflies ? After receiving an 'urgent appeal' had a look at most recent Annual Report & Financial Statements Accounts (31 March 2024). To me they show a healthy balance sheet & reserves plus 'interesting' insights into remuneration of key management๐ค
Impressive new MOTUS hit of a Song Thrush tagged on 17th Sep in Denmark, departed on 9th Oct, passed through four stations in Germany, arrived on Netherlands coast on 15th Oct, departed on 17th, passed through the Belgian Coast at approx 18:45 reaching SBBOT at 20:15 on 2nd Nov!
Although Sandwich Bay (& Kent) have, so far, missed out on some of the more exotic vagrants that favoured NE England ๐ญ, we have had at least 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs. This individual, ringed on Wednesday, still frequents the Obs Pond playing hide-and-seek in the Sallows. ะบัะฐัะธะฒั๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ
